Can you help me out?

Maybe this is the right board to post this at?

DH and I and 2 friends are going to a wedding in IL. We are thinking of taking a weekend road trip for the weekend.

We will be driving through Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City, and staying in Kewanee, IL on Saturday. We are thinking of staying elsewhere Friday.

Is there anything fun in any of these cities?

Otherwise from the map Peoria, IL didn't look to far away either.

Re: Can you help me out?

  • The Village of East Davenport has some cute shops.

Eat at Iowa Machine Shed (really good home cooked style food) off I-80.

Visit the John Deere Pavillion in Moline (all JD stuff).

    Niabi Zoo.

    Figge Art Museum.

Putnam Theatre and & IMAX (rarely anyone there at the later showings)

    Buffalo Bill Museum

    Palmer Museum of Chiropratic History

    Whitey's Ice Cream. (OMG GOOD!)

    Quad City Botanical Center.

Vander Veer Park & Botantical Center (although small and may not have much outside depending on when you travel).

Visit Isabel Bloom store (beautiful statues!)

    Gambling on the Riverboats (plural!!!!)

Kewanee is about an hour from Peoria. They have Good's Furniture (advertised WAYYYYYYY too much on tv in Peoria and the QC). For the average Midwestern tourist (which I consider myself on many occasions), both the Quad Cities and Peoria have many similarities.

    In Peoria:

Check out the view from Grandview Drive

Bradley University athletics (just an idea)

    Zoo @ Glen Oak Park

    Metro Centre Farmer's Market

Festival of Lights in East Peoria (holiday displays)

    Riverboat gambling at Par-A-Dice

Peoria Civic Center (Minor League hockey team here)

Trefger's Bakery on Prospect (I did mispell it)

Peoria Heights has some cute shops

There really isn't much to see reguarding Caterpillar (biggest employer in Peoria), but you can get CAT merchandise at Northwoods Mall and Grand Praire (outside mall in N. Peoria). THere is also a shop downtown, but it has limited hours.

If you were in Peoria this weekend... you could drive down to Pekin and see the progress on Ty Pennington's "Extreme Makeover" house :)

I'm sure some of the other Nesties have some ideas or can help you sway your decision. I may think of more later.

  • Hitched suggested everything I was gonna say. The Village of East Davenport has some great laid back bars if you guys are looking at having a cocktail.

When are you coming? They have some fun stuff going on in the next couple of months. Festival of trees is kinda fun if you like looking at decorated christmas trees

  • WOW!

Thanks for all the ideas. We will be there the 2nd weekend in November. I will look into all the above ideas.

  • I want to add to the Peoria list...

    Lakeview Museum & Planetarium.
