Anyone hosting Thanksgiving this year ?
what are you doing ?
what are your favorite holiday traditions ?
Re: Holidays
I am hosting TG for the first time this year! It's going to be me, DH, his parents and my brother. Normally we do it at DH's parents' house but everyone else in the family is going to be elsewhere so they're coming here.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing yet. Haven't had a chance to start real menu planning or anything. DH is actually pushing for us to do crab. I kinda wanted to do a traditional TG dinner since it's my first time cooking it, even though I don't even eat turkey :P I know, I'm weird.
The only real traditions at TG in DH's family is that his brother makes his aunt's sweet potato casserole. I'm not a huge fan of it so I'm going to make something else
Anyone hosting Thanksgiving this year ? Yes, for the 1st time.
what are you doing ? Both our families are coming to us. It will be a tight fit but we'll make it work. They're coming a couple of days before so we can cook the day before, too.
what are your favorite holiday traditions ? We don't have a lot yet. Most of those I grew up with are no longer done for one reason or another. We don't know what we're doing for Christmas yet.

I'm pushing for crab, too. ;-)
If you consider just Husband, Baz, and myself us "hosting", then yes! We'll be eating and lollygagging. Maybe go for a hike in the afternoon....? I'm pushing for crab, but Husband wants a bird of some kind - so maybe a game hen or quail? When is game season?
Favorite tradition that will happen this season - both at TG and Christmas (when my mom and sister are in town): Sweet Potato Pecan Pie Tartlets. Maybe we'll just eat those and nothing else. It's the holidays, right?

Nope, not hosting. Unfortunately, I doubt we will ever host a holiday with us being vegan. It's just too hard for us to smell meat cooking - very unappetizing for us now. The closest I can compare it to is how hard it is for nonsmokers to smell cigarette smoke.
We'll be going to my parents house. (Of course I'll be cooking our own meal and bringing it over to share if anyone wants any of our dishes).
I love Thanksgiving through New Years. It's just a great season to spend time with loved ones and reflect on the past year.
Took me a minute... you're allergic!!
nope, I can eat crab. Anything with fins or feet is ok. It's the mollusks that'll kill me.
Ah, ok.
Fins or feet, ew.
Not hosting this year. I need to come up with a dish to make. I would love to make something ahead of time and then take it up to the Bay Area in a cooler. Don't know what that is though.
Our Thanksgiving tradition is that someone always makes my aunt's challah bread (we're so not Jewish, but it's a tradition, whatevs) which is amazing. Makes great leftover sandwich bread too.
salad. a giant salad. And if you swing by my house on your way to where you're going, I'll give you a pomegranate or two to seed for it :-) and hey - we can meet!
We'll be up there the weekend after Thanksgiving. I was going to see if anyone wanted to get together.
i'm not hosting this year not that i don't mind hosting turkey day, its that i don't like hosting it every year.
we're going to h's aunt and uncle's house and i'll probably bring something .... bourbon sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce or a dessert of some sort.
getting together w/ family .. watching the lions lose .. again :P
