Hospital Bill

Typically how long after being seen are you billed? I was seen at Memorial Hermann, and am "self paying", so they dont have to deal with ins.

Re: Hospital Bill

  • I'm not sure - Only time I have had a hospital bill, I went to the ER in August and I got my bill in early October but I had insurance so I'm not sure if that makes it longer.
  • If you can, call them and set up an appointment to speak to someone about your situation. Self-pay is always negotiable.

We are not actually paying. We have to submit the bill to the car insurance company, so the at fault driver can pay.

    I will call though.

  • H went to the ER in March and I had a bill skate in 6mos later from that visit.

  • Effective hospital billing is highly depending on the quality of their medical coders, electronic charting, and financial accounting systems.

The hospital I work for provides exceptional patient care.  But has chosen to forego investing in a modern financial accounting system until this past year (we still use a green screen mainframe if you can believe it and we are a large system).

So our billing processes and systems are slow and tedious.  That may be the case wherever you went to the ER.  I agree with calling them as Jax indicated, even if you aren't paying out of your pocket.  They will appreciate knowing someone is anxious to get the bill paid as well!
