DH got his visitor's visa! He said that among other questions, they asked if his ILs are American (he confirmed), if that meant I was American (he confirmed), and whether he wanted to become a US citizen. He said no. The man looked surprised and asked him why not, and he replied, "I like being German!" DH said the guy just laughed and approved his visa.
And DD's registration/passport/SSN went off without a hitch, so now we just have to wait a few weeks to get her passport and we're good to go for our trip back for Christmas!
Yoohoo!! :-)

Re: Update to wish me luck
Awesome. And to think that it is such a shock that someone wouldn't want to be an American.
Yay for everything going smoothly!
They've asked my dad if he wants to become an American citizen about a zillion times. Every time he answers no, they look (or sound) completely weirded out and ask why. His favorite answer is (though it was more fun during the GW era) that there isn't a country in the world that dislikes it if a Dutch person tries to enter, and there are enough countries that don't like Americans all that much, so he prefers to keep the likeable passport. They always just mumble 'have a nice day' after that :-)

DH and I have an agreement that I don't put pressure on him to become an American and he doesn't put pressure on me to become a German. We're both perfectly content with what we are, TYVM.
