Seamstress/Tailor Needed- Bridesmaid Dress

I am in need of a recommendation for a good seamstress/tailor.  Dresses just arrived (from Cleveland bridal shop) and the wedding is in 3 weeks.  The dry cleaners near me in Lakeview/Wrigleyville have tailors on staff but their work is "ok" and over priced-- $20 pant hem.

Since the bridal shop ordered a size bigger than I requested I am in need of some serious alternations (example:  the stays around the bust are floating 3" away from my body).

City recommendations are preferred, but since I travel to the suburbs so much, I will take the dress there as well.  Thanks!

  • Maria's Alterations in the loop.  I haven't had major alterations done here but I've had several pairs of pants and a bridesmaid dress hemmed.  All turned out great and prices were reasonable.  The hem was $20 for satin dress.  There were a lot of bridesmaids dresses there waiting to be worked on, so I'd assume that they do a lot of them.

  • La Modista hands down.  It's on Clybourn.  I've used them for several bridesmaid dresses that basically had to be reconstructed (taken down 2 sizes or more).

For my wedding, I think 4 of my bridesmaids went there.

I've been married 5 years, but continuously use them.  We now live in the burbs, but I travel in to have pillows, curtains, and other custom fabric pieces made for the house.

I personally have no recommendation, but I have several friends who have been very pleased with the Dress Doctor in Water Tower.
