What do u think?

I was wondering what all of you would think of this. Please give your honest opinion.

I've been thinking of starting a grocery delivery business. People would go onto a website or call me, give me a shopping list and tell me where they want to go shop at. Then i would deliver the items they put on the list and they would pay me back upon delivery. It would be the cost of the items plus a small delivery cost.

I am thinking that maybe some of the elderly that can't really get out on their own would benefit from this.

Do you think something like this would work here in the greater Cincy area? I know they use these down in Florida around Disney but i haven't found one around here. So would something like this work?

Re: What do u think?

  • I could see elderly people using a service like that. Maybe you could advertise at churches or bingo halls or other places older people hang out.

  • I think it could work.  I think you would almost have to advertise to all areas of the city and all people to really feel out your market.  I think you could get more people above and beyond the elderly.  I think a lot of people that are too busy would use this service as.

How much of a delivery fee are you thinking?

I'm sure you have thought of most of these things especially since you are familiar with what they offer down in florida, but you would really have to plan out ALL of the details like will you accept a check, what if it gets returned, will/how will you take credit cards, what if you get to someones house and they aren't home, or they can't pay for all of the items, will you go to any store or just certain ones, if you can't find an item will you tell them you couldn't find it or go to another store, if gas prices go up will your delivery fee go up, will you be "on call" 24/7 or only have certain days and time you'll shop for people, will you accept coupons, gift cards, will you use your own coupons?

Good luck if you do decide to do this!

  • I think it could possibly work. Like PP you'll need to figure out how much you will charge and iron out all the details. You could post a weekly calendar and people pick a date and time they want their groceries delivered and then there's a link for them to type out their grocery list. In order for them to request a date, you could require a credit card. That way if they are not home, don't pay when you get there etc. you can automatically charge their cc. Just a thought.

This could also target not only the elderly, but also the sick, new moms, busy moms :) or people who just don't like to shop etc.

    Good Luck!

  • Some friends of mine actually just started up a business that does exactly this-- Grocery Girl (www.grocerygirlky.com) They have had a kind of hard time getting things going with it-- they have a few regular customers but definitely are still working on building a client base.
