Australia flights?

Hi!

So we're looking at visiting BIL in Australia in February or March next year and I'm gasping at the prices I find - can any of you recommend websites/specific airlines to look at for better deals?

I suspect one of the reasons the cost is so high is that I'm looking at flights to/from Brisbane.

ETA: I would also greatly appreciate recs to look at internal flights as we'll need to get to Syndey, Adelaide & perhaps Perth while there.

Thanks!

Re: Australia flights?

  • I forget where you are located, but I know Qantas has a sale going on for after the holiday rush. After January 14th or 15th. I'm sure you've checked them out. Have you also looked at Air New Zealand?

Some internal recs are Tiger, Jetstar (Qantas' budget airline) and Virgin. Good luck, I don't really use any special sites or anything.

  • You just need to watch the airlines websites. From memory, Delta, United, Qantas, Virgin, Air New Zealand (and Hawaiian, but they're expensive). You'll be flying into Sydney or Melbourne and then getting a connection to Brisbane. Look at the budget airlines for your connection, not the partner airlines. We got $900 flights once in the middle of winter. But that wasn't including the American connections.
  • I would sign up to be notified of deals on the qantas website... they have lots of specials going on.

Last March I bought my brother a ticket from LA -- Melbourne / Melbourne - Sydney /Sydney - LA through qantas. I bought it about 2 weeks before the travel date. It was economy and it cost about $1250. I didn't think that was a terrible price.

Try to get on an A380 if possible. Have fun!

  • That is still summer/ going into fall time here so it's an expensive time. What prices were you getting? They may not be as bad as you think for Aussie flights (in my opinion they are always expensive. Lol) Internal flights are qantas, jetstar (I've flown with them and they were good) virgin blue, tiger (I've never flown with them but I have not heard good things)
