Mums Bumps and BBTs

Hey all, how's it going? Ups? Downs?

QOTW: Is the pediatric advice different where you live vs the US? Are you more inclined to listen to their advice or that of the  American Pediatricians.

Re: Mums Bumps and BBTs

  • Ups: DD is cruising a whole lot now. That also means nothing is safe, and we?ve ordered some gates for the stairs, hoping they come very soon.

Downs: she seems to be teething again. Ugghhh.

QOTW: I guess it?s similar, but they?re not as antibiotics happy (good thing in my book) and are more conservative about meds in general. I like the check-ups that they do, they really don?t seem to leave anything out.

  • Ups: M is really using his imagination. He has started making up his own words for things he builds with lego or toilet paper rolls. It's funny.

Downs: School holidays until the 7th. Unfortunately it's been raining for 3 days and I am running out of things to do! He has been getting attitude, everything I ask him to do, he comes back at me with "Maman tu es mechant or Pas gentille maman!" It's so annoying.

QOTD: We've only ever used a Vietnamese and a French pediatrician, I have no idea what it's like in the US or Canada. I agree with Lelia about the antibiotics, and I feel that here they tend to suggest osteopathy instead of meds for a lot of stuff, which I like.

  • Ups: BabyD's vocabulary continues to grow. Amazing how fast it is right now.

Downs: He skipped his nap at school yesterday (super rare) and was bad in the afternoon. Was not happy with him when I picked him up and read his daily sheet. We had a talk but it's hard because I can't be there to actually enforce it. He behaved the whole time while waiting for DH and to the car. Then he screamed for two minutes and passed out mid-scream. Didn't wake up when we got home or when we changed him into pajamas so put him to bed. He slept for 12 hours and was a much better boy today.

QOTW: For pediatric we go on base. So American (military) doctors. They have been great with BabyD. My OB care is out on town and has been fine. There are some differences here and my doctor on base has already told me that I will have to specifically ask for the Vit K shot for the new LO. After another month I'll sit down with our base doctor to go over everything since I'm pretty sure the baby will have a blend of the base and local medicine.

  • Ups:  We are getting more words and strings of words which is fun.

Downs:  we are still sick in some shape or another and it is driving me crazy.  This has been about 3 weeks now, not including teething that started before that.  But with Dh and I getting sick too it is all taking a toll.

QOTW:  Well it really depends in the Doctor.  In Korea not so excited about meds, which was fine with us.  With the GP here straight to anti-biotics.  But from both places I feel I am getting very basic information.  In Korea it was the language barrier.  Here at the GP, this lady I feel just wants us in then out so she can see the next patient, so very little info.  I go online to get the rest of the information.  In America, I dunno haven't really dealt with doctors in years.

  • My pediatrician is pretty chilled out and we tend to listen to him.

  • Ups: I got my GTT results today and I passed!  This gal enjoys her Reece's PB cups waaaay too much to have GD.  My parents are coming this weekend to help me put together the nursery, start my freezer dinner stash and other to do's.  I am now able to tell body parts sticking out/kicking and its fun to play foot or elbow with DH. Less than 10 weeks!!

Downs: I don't think this kid sleeps.  The reassurance of the constant kicks, rolls and punches are very nice, but I'm scared I'm incubating a vampire.  A full nights sleep is a thing of my past. I'll miss you full nights sleep...until we meet again.

QOTD: We have our first interview with a pediatrician next week.  Haven't heard much about this practice we've picked, but looking forward to meeting the doc and talking about his philosophies on child care/medication/etc.

The whole "get all the sleep you can before the baby comes" is a load of sh*te.  I definitely did feel W moving more when I was trying to sleep.  Getting up to use the bathroom 5 times a night didn't help either.

ups:  W is learning new things daily and cracks us up.  He's THIS close to walking.  He'll take some steps every once in a while when he's not paying attention to what he's doing.

downs:  he's teething again.. poor baby is miserable.

QOTW: I feel like I've had good experiences with pediatricians here and the US. No complaints from me.

  • Ups: Only 12ish weeks to go! Still able to work out every day. Feeling reasonably good. Downs: I am so tired of wearing the like five outfits that I own that fit/look reasonable on me, but I don't want to pay for/deal with buying maternity clothes either at this point. I may change my tune in the next few weeks. QOTD: No idea about the pediatric advice, but the prenatal advice is considerably different. My Indian OB pretty much doesn't want me to move, whereas my US OB thinks it is important for me to keep exercising as long as it is comfortable for me.

  • Morning!

Ups: Nothing new really. I've started my maternity leave countdown - eight weeks to go and I'm on holiday for one of those. Yesssssssss. Also, I weighed myself at a friend's house and her scale said I had gained 22 pounds. I could not believe it. Then I went to the doc for a flu shot and weighed myself there. It said 10 pounds. That's more like it! I was surprised by my reaction. I didn't think I'd care so much about weight while I'm pregnant, and I'm a little ashamed at how happy I was to see it was 10 pounds and not 22.

Downs:  Lack of sleep. I'm with Shekels on this one.

    QOTD: Don't know yet.

  • Ups: She's enjoying tummy time more now and can go for a decent while on her tummy!

Downs: The weather is getting colder so it's harder to go out with E and Maddy :( I'm lucky that my Mum has to take some time off of hiking so she's been watching E while I take M to puppy school.

QOTW: I've never gone to an American pediatrician, however, when DH and I were looking into getting E a Jumperoo or Exersaucer we found that the pediatricians here frown on them!
