Our ped gave us the go-ahead to start solids at our 4 month check. We've been thinking he was ready, so we tried it last night and he did great! He got mad when the cereal was gone!
Daycare asked when I want him to start getting cereal there. I was thinking about waiting 2-3 weeks but I watched him the last several mornings when the other kids are eating and he stares at them. This morning, he actually started reaching for the spoon that a teacher was holding when I was sitting next to her, and got upset when she put it down without giving it to him. I wasn't planning on starting fruits/veggies until 5 months, but I'm questioning that now too. He's always been an "if you offer it to me, I'll eat it" baby, so I don't know if he would refuse it if he didn't actually want it!
I'm definitely waiting this week to make sure his tummy handles it - he had really bad (painful) gas last night, but it could be something I ate or his system just getting used to new stuff.
So I'm curious... what was your timeline for your EBF baby?
Re: Starting solids - timeline?
We did zero cereal or purees. We've done tons of the steamed veggies and fruit cut in fry shapes so she can pick them up and feed them to herself. We started it off an on at 6 months and now she has something whenever we're eating. It's gone amazingly well. She's also been one that if you offer, she'll gobble it up. Owen was much more finicky.
Amelie's favorites have been peaches, carrots, butternut squash, pears, and bananas all cut in fry shapes.
We did cereal starting at 3.5 months then regular food starting at 4 months per ped. Then with the food, we just did 1 vegetable at a time and he at that one vegetable for 2 full days before trying a new vegetable. once we went through all the 1st food vegetables, we started the fruit. New one every two days. Then after that, we just combined and then at 6 months started the meats but I don't give him a lot of meats.
Now he eats anything....except cinnamon!
I saw the picture! Sad!!
How many "meals" was he getting at 4 months?
My ped said to wait 3 days, and DH wants to be home for new foods, so we're going to make Monday's our "new food night" because that's the only night he's guaranteed to be home!

FWIW, you might switch to oatmeal, because rice is known to make babies gassy and constipated. We had that problem when DD started rice, and once we figured it out and switched to oatmeal, we didn't have anymore issues.
We went straight to oatmeal with DS.
I've heard that, but thought we'd try since daycare provides cereal! I might try oatmeal next week - especially if the gas doesn't get better - just as a variety of taste if we don't start veggies/fruits for a few weeks.

We did this, too. It was a lot better on the tummy. DD didn't even have rice. We started cereal around 4 months, but were slow on the fruits/veggies with DD (don't know why really, was just us, I guess). But, once we started with those she loved them. I'd wait a week or so, then intro something different -- but starting with veggies is a good way to do it so they don't get the sweet first and not want the others after those yummy ones!
