Cheap and easy

Halloween costume. I need ideas for H. He has a party at the karate school on Thursday then SIL's party on Sunday. It can't be scary or adult themed because of all the kids around.

Any suggestions?

I'm putting either an M or EASY on a red sweatshirt and calling myself either an M&M or the Staples Easy Button. My mother is going as a ceiling fan. She has "go ceiling" on a sweatshirt and some pompoms. I was just going to do something equally as corny for H, but he wants something that doesn't have to be explained to kids constantly.

Re: Cheap and easy

  • My husband is going as a construction worker... jeans, boots, plaid button down shirt... you could add safety glasses or a yellow vest or a hard hat to complete the look.  Super simple and he probably has 90% of the clothes.  He could tell the kids he's Bob the Builder!
  • That's what he said.

    Sorry.... I couldn't help myself.

    huh, huh.

DH's 'go to' costumes are a toga (out of a bedsheet) or a domino (black shirt/black paints, affix white dots).  There are many variations you can do with the all-black outfit.  I was an artist on year (made a palette & brush out of poster board and wore a beret and scarf, etc).

H and I were emailing today and talking costumes. His reply came back with just "I want something cheap and easy". It popped up on my outlook just like that while one of the attorneys was standing by my desk. Made for an good conversation starter there.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll run them by him and see what we can figure out. If it were up to me, I'd skip it. Not a fan of costumes at all.

  • If we had anywhere to go this year, I was going to be Flo from Progressive and he was going to be Mayhem from the Allstate commercials. That one was pretty easy - a few suit pieces from goodwill, a couple of tears, a bandaid on his face, etc. Although I have no idea if anyone would actually get the costume.

  • Waldo! Red shirt + white tape stripes, round glasses, red and white hat. And all the kids will get it.
  • I love the Waldo idea, maybe we can make that work
  • I'm late and it's not kid friendly but.... Wear a bathrobe hang a piece of wood (log) around your body, like a crossover purse. Any guesses?
