Yesterday I had an interview and the person doing the interview would be my supervisor should I get the job (as opposed to HR). She told me at the end of the interview that she thought I would be a good fit and would like me to come back for a second interview with the Engineering management that I would actually be working with. She also told me she had several other candidates to interview and she would let me know about the second interview Wednesday or Thursday.
Today I was called back for the second interview. Things seemed to go really well, but it actually was more of a talk about what the position is, what would be expected of me and to find out what my working style is and whether I work well as a team. There weren't really any normal interview questions.
I've never really had a second interview before, and have always gotten a job based on one interview (when I have gotten the job that is). Is it normal to have more of a talk rather then an interview for the second interview? I should also mention that the person interviewing me yesterday was not in the interview today.
Re: Second Interview
There is no formal rule. Some second interviews are with the same members of the team, but different questions. Some are with different team members to see how you'd mesh with them. Some people have a more formal interview style, others just chat. Heck, I interviewed with one person who spent the whole time talking about my honeymoon plans.
