I don't think I ever introduced myself after we moved here - so, hi! DH and I moved to Southern Oregon about 6 months ago, and we love it! I haven't posted much since most of y'all are from around Portland (yes, I'm from the south and I say y'all) so I don't have much to contribute to the Portland-related posts. (Hi AltheaP, I don't know if you remember me from the NC board!)
Anyway, we haven't been up to Portland yet, but we're thinking of maybe checking out the Holiday Ale festival the first weekend in Dec. DH loves beer and I love Christmas so it seems like an ideal event! I'm just wondering if it's crazy crowded and if we'll spend the whole time fighting to get to the tasting counters.
What else is fun to do in Portland that's holiday related? Our anniversary is Dec. 17th and we usually try to combine that celebration with something Christmas-y. If we come to the ale festival, that will be our anniversary getaway but we'd be open to coming another weekend in Dec. if there's something that more worth doing.
Re: Intro & Holiday Ale Festival?
The holiday ale festival is my FAVORITE festival of the year. It's just beer, some cheese, and an occasional band I think. No major christmas-y things at the festival but the downtown will of course be decorated for the season.
we go on sunday (the last day) and it is usually not crowded at all. Yes some of the beer is gone, but last year we got there and the guy said, "we only have 45 beers left on tap".....like that would not be enough or something LOL.
I'm hoping to volunteer at it on the wednesday day of the festival.
Agreed - it is probably my favorite festival of the year. Prepare for it to be super crowded, though. It isn't unusual for it to be shoulder-to-shoulder, but, it is still really fun.
