Do you know your neighbors?

Do you know your neighbors by name and talk or socialize with them?

This is inspired by my neighborhood. Our power went out last night and about 1/4 of my neighbors came walking outside to see what was going on. I realized I don't know any of my neighbors really.

Re: Do you know your neighbors?

  • I know my next door neighbor, the shirtless one, fairly well. We talk on almost a daily basis. I also know the guy down the street with the adorable boxer. He's pretty nice.

I know most of the people on our cul-de-sac, but not that well.

  • I know all of the people directly around me. Know about half of the people on our street.

ETA: I'm not overly friendly. The people that I do not is because of mutual friends or from the annual Christmas party.

  • I know the couple on one side of us by first names and we talk regularly. They have small dogs and Amsterdam likes to talk to them through the fence. I've spoken to the old couple on the other side of us and retuned their puppy when it dug under our fence a few times. I know them enough to not like them. I know one other couple in our neighborhood but I knew them before we moved here.

Last night I met one of my newer neighbors but we didn't actually  introduce ourselves by name. I only know that she works for the same company as DH and I.

  • We know the neighbors on both sides of us and two house across the street from us. DH "dogsits" for our next door neighbor during the day. We don't hang out with any of them socially but if we are outside at the same time we are friendly.

  • We know a bunch of our neighbors and talk to them almost on a daily basis.  The neighborhood kids even come to our house to play with our dogs.  We even know a bunch of people in our development from taking the dogs on daily walks.

  • We only know the lady who lives right next door, but only to the extent of a "hi, how are you" when we see her (which is only once every couple of weeks).  This is a big complaint of mine, actually.  I really wish we knew more neighbors, but our schedules have made it pretty impossible up to this point.

  • We know a few of our neighbors pretty well. DH rides bikes w/2 of the guys on our cul-de-sac and we socialize with them and their wives when one of them has cookouts. The neighbors diagonal from us are the sweetest couple. They're older and retired and the husband is always bringing over tools he doesn't want anymore for Cris. They left a card and GC in our mailbox when we got married. He also loved Brodie so much. He always had his favorite treats on hand and would watch him for us when we went out of town. We know a few others by name and smile/wave/say hello when we see them out.

  • Not. At. All. We know the names of the people on our immediate right and left and say hello when we see them outside and that's it. H bought the house nine years ago and I've lived there for about seven years so it's not like we're new.
  • Not really.  We "chit chat" with both neighbors on either side of us and then one of the guys across the street.  DH talks more....b/c he does more of the yard work and sees them more.  lol  One next door neighbor and the across the street neighbor just asked me if "congratulations are in order" (and pointed to their bellies, lol)  I said yes, thank you and they were shocked I only had a month left.  I don't know if that tells you how much they see me.  Or if I'm just kinda little.  We have an HOA and they have quarterly meetings and neighborhood decorating sessions.....but we've never been.  I think we should get a little more involved.  DH isn't interested.
  • I know most of my neighbors. Our veterinarians live directly across the street and I know them really well. The rest of them I semi know. My mom plays Bunco with a group of neighbor ladies so that helps.

  • We know one of the next door neighbors by name and socialize with them the most.  The across the street neighbors we make small talk with when we're outside.  The house next to the directly across the street neighbors was one of the hosts of the neighborhood holiday party last year so we've actually been inside their house.  My SIL's aunt lives at the end of our street.

  • We know the elderly lady on one side of us by name and chat when she's outside. She's invited us inside a few times for "treats."

We're friends with the neighbors on the other side. We've gone out to dinner with them, hung out in the backyard around their fire pit drinking, and we're going to a Halloween party with them this weekend. We also watched their cats while they were out of town.

We also know the people directly across the street well because they're friends with the people next door. We're going to hang out on their deck next week.

We know several of our other neighbors by name but don't do more than say hello when we see them.

  • DH knows all the people that live within 5 houses of us on all sides. Indifferent

And will talk to them and socialize. Ick!

I know and will talk to our neighbors immediately to our left.  They are pseudo grandparents to James and give him lots of attention when we take him for walks outside.  DH will feed and water their cats when they're away and if it's a short trip, they'll do the same for us and our dogs.  We've had them over for dinner and hang out with them drinking on the porch/driveway like good wt on nights like 4th of july, etc.

  • Nope. Not even close but we don't have a house and I feel like it makes a difference. Apartment neighbors move in and out more often.
  • Also, I realized the other night that shirtless Eric now sees me in my PJs more than anyone else.
