Great question! I am struggling to put together Wyatt's list since the family is asking. He will be 7 months but I don't know what he will like/hate at that age. So far on his list I have:
Books (Dr Suess, very hungry caterpiller, goodnight moon, llama llama red pajama)
Baby Einstein take along tunes
bath squrities
Foam letters and numbers for the bath
Fisher Price stack and roll cups
Fisher Price poppity pop musical dino
playskool step start walk n ride
Like: Books, Stuffed animals, Easel, Kitchen
Hate: NOISY TOYS! (Which DH's brother makes his mission to get for DD for birthday/holidays)

Do not wait on the bolded. Go immediately to the store and get it now. DD loved that thing! She still plays with it when it gets dumped out of one of her many bins of toys

At one, we got James one of those push cars that have noisy stuff too. Here are some other ideas:
- shopping cart
- board books with music/words
- a portable dvd player (more for you and DH)
- stackable anything
- musical table
I guess need to make a target run to pick this up!
OMG yes, DD is very possessive of hers.
