Sewing machine question

So, I'm thinking about starting to get into sewing, even if I just use it for Halloween costumes and basic tailoring.  What would be a good beginner/inexpensive machine to start with?  We don't have a specific craft room, or space to have it in a table, so it'd have to be lightweight enough to move around and nothing that'd break the bank.

Any suggestions?

Re: Sewing machine question

  • Check the FAQ at the top of the page.  I bought the Brother XR-9000 machine recommended there and have had great luck with it for 2 years.  Like you, we don't have space for a craft room or machine table, and this one is light enough to lug around and comes with a hard cover to protect it from dust when not in use.
