What do you get your parents for Christmas?
I always have the hardest time figuring out what to get my parents for Christmas. I feel like if they really want something, they just buy it and my mom is really crazy about clutter, so she's not big on getting "stuff".
I always try to come up with ideas for consumable products, but it's getting harder and harder every year...
So, in conclusion... What types of things do you get your parents for Christmas?
(I have no idea why this is in Times New Roman....)

Re: What do you get your parents for Christmas?
Well my mom really wants an iPad but can't justify the costs of the one she wants so for her birthday and Christmas she wants gift cards to Best Buy to help defray the costs.
But in the past I've gotten magazine subscriptions, sports tickets, gift cards, etc. I'm not very imaginative.
A gift I get my parents every year is one of those picture calendars. It's usually just pictures of the grandkids, but if you parents don't have any grandkids, it would be cute with just pictures of your family, ie pets, siblings, family trips, etc. My mom loves it and it is proudly displayed on the refrigerator.
In the past I have gotten them one of those small Christmas trees and went downtown and purchase casino chips and secured them to the tree.
My inlaws are really hard to buy for so we almost always end up getting them a gift card to the movies since they go to the movies like one a week (no joke).
Yeah, I'm almost thinking a gift card to a movie and a dinner would be nice... Although, that's what my brother got my parents last year. Hm... Unfortunately my parents have no grandkids to use for a calander, although, I will have to keep that in mind for the future!

Tell your brother you call dibs on the dinner gift card idea this year!!!
For my Dad I always end up getting him DVD sets of his favorite shows. After about 7 years of birthdays and Christmas gifts the whole Seinfeld series is complete. Also I end up getting him socks, and restaurant gift cards. Mom usually gets her lotions from VS, a set of earrings, restaurant gift cards, and picture frames.
We usually go in with my mom on a gift for my dad. He's really hard to shop for, but spends a lot of time outside. I think we went in a log splitter or something like that last year. LOL
My mom is easy to buy for. I bought her a Kate Spade tote bag this year. We saw it at the outlet when we were in Niagara. I should have bought it the, but ended up calling a couple days after we got home and had it shipped to me. It's a little more than I normally spend on her, but she'll love it!
For the ILs, they're even worse to buy for. We usually end up giving them gift cards to dinner and a movie. We tried something different last year because we were boycotting GCs, but I think MIL ended up returning the sweater we got her.

Parents can be so hard to shop for! Last year we got my mom a digital photo frame. I don't think she ever plugged it in. All the kids on DH's side went together to get MIL a Nook. She still prefers her paperbacks. I don't even remember what we got FIL. My dad at least is pretty easy - he loves movies and has an obsession with fish. So I usually find something fish-related and/or grab some newer DVDs. If he's gotten tired of getting the same thing every Christmas and Father's day, he hasn't said anything. And I'm too lazy to ask.
Anyway, I'm already dreading having to find gifts for them all again this year.
When I can't figure out to give or need a little something extra to give, I often donate to a charity in their honor. Either a charity they support or a charity that involves something they like.
For example, my dad loves the Appalachian mountains, so one year a big part of his gift was a donation I had made to preserve an acre of the Appalachian forest.
My mom raises chickens. One year, I donated money to a charity that would provide a poor family with chickens - that gives them independence and food - double win!
I also try to keep track during the year when they say stuff like, "I wish I had..." or "I need a new...". That doesn't always work though.
This is a great idea! I will definitely keep this in mind!
