More advice needed

So I posted last week about following up in regards to the position I've had 2 interviews for.

Like PP suggested, I waited until today to follow up. The HR woman contacted me back and stated that she met with the manager and they are still in the interview process and haven't made a decision. They "hope" to get back to me by the end of next week.

Here is my question: The position requires a level of certification that I am in the process of obtaining. I called the manager last week to tell her that my application was approved so I could schedule the certification exam. Because of lovely NYS, I can't call to actually schedule the test until tomorrow. After I have my actual test date determined, do I call the manager to let her know aka update her on my certification status? Or because I called to today to follow up, do I leave it alone for a few days?

  • Personally, I think there is no harm in dropping an e-mail- it shows that you are motivated and follow up on tasks.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you!

  • I'd probably wait a couple more days.  Just because the manager knows you are in the process and if I were her, I'd assume you were doing what you could to get that taken care of ASAP.

  • I don't understand why you would call them to tell them when your test date is when they already know you are accepted to be tested.  It sounds like they know your certification is imminent, and that's what is important.  Your only next call should be to update that you obtained the certification; the other details are unimportant.

The first available test date isn't until a few weeks from now. They are making their decision this week. I don't want them to think that I am putting this off or won't take the test for several months. To be seen as a candidate for this job, I want them to know that I am acting on this ASAP so I can have my certification this month, rather than 3-4 months down the road.

Let them know, then reiterate your interest in the position.  Companies will give a job to a person who articulates that they want the job over the person who doesn't.  If they're making a decision this week, fill them in on your updated status now.
