what do you feed your cats? we feed our nature's instinct from the healthy pet food store. it's a big bag (similar to what you would see in a dog food) and it's $37. it lasts for a month or so. i am just wondering if we should switch to a super market brand. one of our cats has a bad tummy (vomits a lot more than the average cat) so we feed them grain free. it's been so long i don't even know if we switched him if he would still have the problem. also when i looked in the grocery store it didn't appear that much cheaper to buy the equivalent amount. just curious what you guys do and how much you spend. we have four cats. also i had always heard the natural stuff was the way to go but now that they are selling purina one etc i am wondering if that still holds true.

Re: cat owners
F has changed food 4 times in the last year.
Originally he was eating Wellness and then earlier this year he had a UTI and stopped eating as much of that so we switched it to the grain free Natural Balance.
He really liked that (ok, so he'll eat almost anything) and he did lose some weight on it (which was needed) but he had another UTI about 2 months ago and his vet said that it was more important for him to have something that would help prevent crystallization than eating grain free. Since UTIs can be fatal, especially in male cats, we made the switch.
After trying Purina One Urinary Tract Health, we've settled on ProPlan UTH. It's by the same company but he seemed to like ProPlan better.
We're actually going next week for his 2 month follow up to see if the food change has helped him any and to see if it has effected his weight any.
It never hurts to try and see how things go. My mom's cat throws up a lot and she went from Friskies to Blue Buffalo recently and I think that's helped. Maybe you could also try a type of food for a sensitive stomach.
Blog!
Winky was on Science Diet for mature indoor cats. Since her kidney issues, she's been on the Science Diet renal food. She'll eat a little bit and then we have to put tuna water for her to eat any more. The vet said she could get up to a can of tuna water a day. She used to love soft food, but will barely touch it now.
This kidney stuff is $40 for an 8 pound bag, the other stuff wasn't as expensive.
I believe a healthy diet is more important for cats than a cheaper one. But I would definitely talk to your vet before you switch. And if you do switch, introduce the new food gradually, by mixing it with the old food.
How much does your cat eat per month? I figured it out one time and I was saving pennies on the day for the difference I was saving. I think the food I was buying was $7/bag and the Blue Buffalo was just over double - like $16 for the same size.
So I saved about $8/month, but I also wasn't buying food every month. I think it's like every other, but even at a bag a month that's about a quarter per day.
I don't know if that would be worth the risk of them getting sick & vet bills just to switch back.
Are there other areas you could possibly save? Grocery store brands? Coupons? I know you're good at this stuff so you're probably doing everything you can already, but I just don't think the food savings is worth it.
yeah. i think you are right.
I'm not help. Puddin gets Purina Cat chow. I buy it in bulk at Costco.
Can you look online and see if you can buy the food you are feeding for cheaper or in a larger quantity?
