Granite questions

Hi ladies,

Has anyone bought granite for their countertops? We are in South Lyon and just don't know where we should be purchasing from. Any recs are appreciated! My husband is very wary of granite wholesalers since he's heard stories about them taking money and then shutting down....so he wants to go with Home Depot. Thought I'd ask around and see if anyone had any good experiences.  Thanks!

We bought ours back in 08 from the Granite City on 8 Mile in Livonia. We had a great experience. Lots of large slab samples in the back showroom and they let you take little samples with you. My parents had been searching for granite around the same time. This was the only place we went to and were so happy with their selection and they had the exact color we wanted so we didn't look anywhere else. My parents ended up ordering from here as well (after searching for about 6mo!)

The price was very reasonable and included a stainless undermount sink. Here is a pic of our final product:

I have nothing to add.  I just wanted to say that I am jealous of babya's granite countertops.  I have maroon-colored laminate ones. I HATE them.  Unfortunately, with the wedding and honeymoon plans, the kitchen is going to stay as it is for quite a while.  After the wedding, FI and I have already agreed to redo both the bathrooms.  Then somewhere down the line the kitchen and floors will get redone.  I wish I was more patient.

I don't have any rec's close to you, but make sure you get quotes from a few different companies.  I was SHOCKED when we had 3 different companies come out and the quotes varied up to $1,000.  I couldn't believe it because they were all measuring the same space.  We were going to go with Home Depot, but it was much cheaper finding a wholesaler.  Good luck!

And to be honest, they're not even mine anymore. We just sold our house in mid-September. Our new one has laminate! Hopefully in a few years we'll look into replacing them, and we'll definitely go with the same company we used before!
