Apples

I always get granny smiths, which I love, but they're a bit tart.  So I wanted another kind too.  DH got some for me awhile back and they were mushy, which I don't like.  I don't remember what kind they were.  What's a good, crisp red apple?  Red Delicious, Honey Crisp?  I'm craving apples.

Re: Apples

  • If the red delicious are anything like the golden delicious (which I actually love) then they're are not the most crisp apple out there. I just had some gala apples that were really good. Good crunch and sweet taste.

  • I like Honeycrisp and Fuji the best.

  • I like mushy apples so I can tell you to avoid McIntosh and Rome apples.  They are more grainy.

  • Thanks ladies.  I noticed some were on sale at Publix, so I wanted to be sure to get one I'd like.  As long as it has a crunch to it, I'm good.  haha
  • Honeycrisp are my fave. Crispy and super juicy.

  • Pink Lady!! Super crispy, beyond juicy, and SWEET. They are just coming into season now, and I'm hoping there are some good ones next time I shop.

Honestly I won't buy apples at publix anymore. I used to love their produce, but over the past year or so, I have had so many mushy apples. BLECH. So consider the possibility that the mushy factor might be due (at least in part) to being overripe, not the type of apple. I've had really good luck with super target apples, actually.
