Trying to make a decision

I am trying to decide between two job offers right now and would love some feedback from other people. Both are Marketing Strategy positions.

Job A - Same part of town, 10% increase in pay, challenging role with no structure, ambiguous job duties, smaller agency that works with auto dealers

Job B - Greenspoint area, offer letter will be sent next week so I am unsure of benefits and pay, may be bored with the role, lots of structure, lots of mobility, very large Oil and Gas company

I have to give an answer to Job A Monday but will not get the offer letter for Job B until Wednesday.

I like structure but I do not want to be bored so I am going back and forth right now.

Re: Trying to make a decision

  • Job B - you may have more opportunity for growth within the company as well as have access to additional training (coming from my experience with o&g companies)

  • My vote is Job A. With the higher pay and a more challenging role (with opportunity to learn alot/grow alot), thats the definite pick to me. If you want to get a job later in a larger firm with what you learn at Job A, you certainly could. Having a boring job you don't LOVE is the definition of torture to me.

  • I wouldn't turn down a job without a firm offer from the other company. What if something happens?

I agree with this. I think there are so many more choices and ways to move up and around in o&g.

I hope the best for your decision!!

You can tell them that you have an offer letter form another company and want to make the best decision. If you ask them to send the letter sooner they may - it's not unheard of for candidates to say something.

  • I wouldn't make the decision until you know everything about both options.  Let the A company know that you need until Thursday to make a proper decision.  If they want you, then it won't hurt them to wait a little longer.  Be up front and honest.  However, I personally couldn't take a job where I would be bored and unchallenged unless I absolutely had to.
