Re: Poll to liven things up a bit! Getting to know you!
What is your:
Dream car?
MINI Coupe or Countryman. We have MINI Coopers that we have an insane love for, but these came out long after we started shopping. I love the idea of a two-seater roadster and the 4WD and extra space in the Countryman. We love the cars so much we're even involved in MINI Clubs and have raced them on closed tracks.
Favorite Restaurant?
It was Topo Gigio in Chicago since I love that "Return to Me" was filmed there and there's nothing like dining outside in Chicago in the Summer. Now, since I can't eat there it's a toss up between Gaucho's in Valpo, IN and Sambuca in Nashville, TN, but The Palm is a close second.
Store to shop?
It was Anthropologie, but since I've picked up sewing again it's JoAnne's Fabrics. I've been reworking old jerseys and concert tees of DH's into strappy tanks and dresses without patterns. I just rip them apart and start putting them back together. I'm waiting on my parents to send me my Forte jersey that got ruined to salvage it into something awesome again.
When you were little:
What did you want to be when you grew up?
This is hysterical to me since I grew up to get a Master's and now am working on a second, but I always wanted to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. I hate the Cowboys and am a die-hard Bears girl, but this was it. I even had the satin jacket with DCC on the back.
What was your favorite toy?
I'd say my bike since my BFF and I spent every night riding our bikes together in the summer. I never like dolls or Legos. If I wasn't riding my bike, I was sitting in the splits on the back edge of the couch getting yelled at every time.
What's something people wouldn't know about you just by looking at you?
People would never know how sick I am. I had Endometriosis so badly that I had the hysterectomy, but it was found so late that there is severe damage to my GI organs from it being allowed to get so bad. I also have a Gluten Intolerence and consuming the slightest amounts makes me violently ill and weak. I've been seeing specialists for years to get everything figured out and they will probably be removing two more organs, which will mean I've had a total of 8 removed in less than 4 years. From the outside I look healthy, but when you look at the scans and tests, you'd think I was in my 70's. I also have a couple of other syndromes, but those are so far off the radar with how serious the other things are right now. My friends and family were stunned when they heard the news, but they've been an awesome support system. I do everything in my power to not look sick at all every day though.
What is your:
Dream car?
White Range Rover - I just love that car and have for years. I have never driven them or ridden it but for what ever reason I love it.
Favorite Restaurant?
Any place with great bread. There is a local place here on the south side of Indy that I love.
Store to shop?
The Limited...I just love their clothes.
When you were little:
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Vana White, I figured when I got older I could have her job and wear the beautiful clothes.
What was your favorite toy?
My cabbage patch doll. I still have her and plan to give her to my future child.
What's something people wouldn't know about you just by looking at you?
I almost went deaf as a child from a ruptured ear drum and have had 3 reconstructive ear drum surgeries on my right ear. I still have hearing issues from it.
Those are fun! My old boss had one and we loved going to lunch in it since I had an Echo at the time. I think it's the whole British appeal. It's what sucked us in with our Coopers.
What is your:
Dream car? 2011 Mazda 3 5-door hatchback in sky blue mica. Zach made the fatal mistake of suggesting I test drive one once, and I've been in love ever since. They're such happy little cars!
Favorite Restaurant? Toss up between Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse. There's a place outside Zach's hometown of Nashville, IL called the Blue Room - it's a bar, and the building is so dilapidated that the whole place should be falling down, but it's somehow staying upright. Great food.
Store to shop? Maurice's for new stuff, Take Two clothing (local second hand shop) for cheaper retail therapy. I bought a sweater at the second hand place earlier this month that I thought was a wool blend. When I went to wash it tonight, something told me to check the tag - imagine my surprise when I realized I'd paid $8.97 for 100% cashmere! It's my new favorite.
When you were little:
What did you want to be when you grew up? Teacher, some days a vet, til I realized it wasn't all about playing with the animals. I'd still like to teach, but sometimes I feel like I do (librarian).
What was your favorite toy? My teddy bear, with my dollhouse in close second. I think that's where I found my love for decorating, as I never put the furniture in the same place. In fact, I played once that the dolls were doing some renovations to the master, so the bed wound up in the family room.
What's something people wouldn't know about you just by looking at you? Um...physically, the upper flap on my left ear is stuck together. Otherwise, I have no idea. I can't have dairy in large quantities, I'm allergic to cats (said as our cat sits right next to me on the couch) - go through a lot of allergy pills.
What is your:
Dream car? Either a 1964 red mustang, or a pink cadillac (my stint in Mary Kay did not ruin my admiration of the car...nor has Paris Hilton's bright pink rolls royce. I want a pink luxury car! haha!)
Favorite Restaurant? A local Irish pub, JK O'Donnell's
Store to shop? Depends. I work for a Salvation Army store so I love going in and finding cheap thrills, but lately I've been frequenting craft stores
When you were little:
What did you want to be when you grew up? A pediatrician, then an archaeologist
What was your favorite toy? My Barbies...any of them
What's something people wouldn't know about you just by looking at you? Hahaha tons of things! I'm trilingual, I really enjoy scrapbooking, the types of music I like (it's everywhere...no one's surprised when I say I like metal, goth, punk, or classic rock, but when I say I'm a long time Hanson fan everyone does a double take)
Which languages, and how do you keep them straight? I took 3 years of German in high school, and when I started taking Spanish in college, I'd understand what was being asked, but all I could think to respond with was the German word. I'd love to learn Spanish fluently, but I don't possess the time or the patience.
Where do you do your scrapbooking?
I speak French and German. My French is better, but I can get by in German. I lived in Strasbourg, France, which is about 15 minutes from the border, so i had an excuse to use both pretty frequently.
I get my scrapbooking stuff mostly at Archiver's or Michael's, or a local craft store.
What is your:
Dream car? 1967 camaro, but mine now is pretty close to my dream car
Favorite Restaurant? Lou Malnatis
Store to shop? Yankee Candle or Barnes and Noble
When you were little:
What did you want to be when you grew up? A vet
What was your favorite toy? Winnie the Pooh
What's something people wouldn't know about you just by looking at you? That I have broken, fractured or dislocated almost every bone.
Good to know! I guess living there truly does help you become fluent faster.
