Clicky: Nanny

I was lurking on other boards and noticed a few moms had nannies. Not occasional babysitters, but actual nannies. Some live-in. Thoughts?[Poll]

Re: Clicky: Nanny

  • I voted no, but that's because for me I hope to be a SAHM. I could see it as being convenient if you have to work, because you don't have to worry about bringing your child to daycare all the time.

  • If I had a kid I would consider a nanny over daycare.

  • Depends entirely on your situation. If you're a SAHM, there's no reason to have a nanny, imo.

If you (both) work full-time and can afford it, a nanny is a great option -- one consistent, dedicated caregiver who can give exclusive attention to your kids!

  • I agree, weird if you're a SAHM.  But, I work.  I would consider a nanny over daycare if we could afford it.  But, definitely not a live in one.  And I'd only be interested when my baby was young.  My friends that have kids all prefer daycare (some went from nanny to daycare) b/c the kids get more interaction, education, etc., especially once they're old enough to interact.

  • When we have children, we will most definitely have a nanny.

I have personally worked in daycares and been a nanny.....and I will not ever put my children in daycare....

  • I think when we have kids we might opt into a nanny share for at least two days a week even if I become a SAHM. It's generally cheaper than day care and would free up my time during the week to run errands, do housework, prepare for the other days and so when D gets home we can spend time together.

This. That's why I selected "maybe." But reality, we won't be able to afford daycare while we work full time nor have one of us be a SAHParent. My sister has one for her boys, and it actually has been the best thing since she got divorced. The nanny gave the boys some much needed consistency and stability with their Dad's move to a new home and the back and forth. I had a babysitter growing up and her son was 2 weeks older than me. That was a great arrangement.

  • i know maybe lame but i'd really like my kid to be around others.. as much as a nanny would be great for one on one and seeing a familiar face.. if H & I can't figure out care some other way.. we'll send our child to daycare.

on another note.. it was NUTS to see how many nannys had babies in central park! i was excited to see them outside with the babies thougH!

  • We're hiring a nanny because I'm going back to work. She's a SAHM who's going to school part time and has a large background in childcare and home schooling. She's local, and M will be at her home during the day. :) I like the idea of the personal attention she'll have vs. the daycare situation.

  • i like the *idea* of one..but since i plan on SAHM, or *even if* i go back to work, i have family that would watch the kid, so i chose no.
