Questionnaire w/ PCS (2 Questions)

DH and I have been through a number of PCS while in the military, but his newest assignment sent him a questionnaire to fill out. I just think its interesting that most of the questions can be answered by looking at his basic record (that they have access too) and there is a threat of "if you dont return this questionnaire your orders can and will be canceled." Obviously he is going to return the questionnaire, but I was wondering if this has ever happened to any of you or your spouses?

One of the questions asks if we understand that the area is a high COL area and do we think we can afford to manage living there. This makes me wonder if there is a COL allowance given as we have received in the past while being stationed overseas. The area where my DH will be stationed is in the Washington DC area. Has anyone received COLA in that area?

  • We only PCSd once so far, but did not have to fill out a survey.

Here is a link to figure out if you will get CONUS COLA.

Thanks for the link. No COLA for the area so I think its interesting that its even mentioned in the questionaire.

  • As you know, my DH is stationed in the National Capitol Region. He does not receive COLA.

I wonder if they are asking to ensure that you/they are aware of the potential costs of living in the area. There are many service members who make money on BAH. We use ALL of DH's BAH, and then some, for our rent. So, if a soldier depends upon the additional money leftover from BAH, they would be SOL here. It sounds like they are making sure that they don't PCS anyone who can't financially make it in the NCR.
