CD Moms: Overnight Solution

We're having some problems with overnight dipes the last week or so. I just started making the connection between our interrupted sleep and her diapers, so now I'm eager to fix it!

Yesterday morning, Nora woke up between 5-6 and was babbling/whining in her crib. This isn't totally abnormal for her, and she wasn't crying/screaming or anything, so we let her be. She quieted down for periods, then would start up again, quiet down again, etc. Torture. I finally went in there to discover she was SOAKED. Like, her pants were totally soaked. Diaper weighed a ton. I felt terrible for having let her wait it out for so long.

This morning, at 4:30-5:00, I heard her whining in there again. I let her go for a little bit to see if she'd settle back down, but she wouldn't, and I kept worrying she had leaked again. So, I went in. When I got in there, she was still lying on her stomach with her face into the mattress--obviously TRYING to sleep, but couldn't. I picked her up, and she wasn't wet, but I changed her anyway--the diaper was completely full. I put her in a disposable, held her for a few minutes (she was clearly awake), laid her back down and... silence. She went right back to sleep until we had to wake HER up at 7:30 this morning for work/daycare.

Poor kid! The wet diapers are obviously causing her discomfort. I'm going to try to put her to bed in a disposable tonight to see if that helps keep the moisture away from her at all.

As far as CDs... what should we do? Her nighttime diapers are already stuffed to capacity. We use Fuzzibunz for nighttime, and they are stuffed with the two microfiber inserts that come with them + a microfiber/hemp combination insert (Blueberry brand). She's obviously going through a period of heavy wetting. Any advice?

Re: CD Moms: Overnight Solution

  • We use prefolds in our pocket dipes and they seem to absorb better than the other inserts. I don't know if that would help, but it's worth a try.

  • We are having wet morning issues too. I started stuffing a BG with the microfiber insert and a medium prefold, after remembering Jenn saying she does that. It generally works better than our old routine of Thirsties Fab Fitted with a hemp doubler. Alex still wakes up damp to wet most mornings, but she drinks A LOT during the day, so I'm not sure there's much else we can do. The prefold though, she's only slightly damp, if anything, by morning. She ends up just as wet in a disposable by morning than in her regular cloth options.
  • We only have newborn size prefolds, so I'd have to pick up some other ones to give them a try. We might have to resort to that, though--like you say, Jill, I'm not sure a disposable is going to cut it, either!

    Thanks, girls.

Can't comment on CDs but if you need a good nighttime disposable rec in the meantime try Huggies Overnights.  Jane is a heavy wetter and her diaper is FULL in the AM, but it holds it.  If Nora is near the highest weight listed on a given size, size up.

  • We also stuff overnight diapers with a prefold, along with a microfiber insert.  That has worked better for us than other combinations of microfiber and hemp.

We use cloth diapers, but were having a lot of problems at night, no matter what I tried. I resorted to using disposables (Huggies Overnights) and Naylon is right, they hold a LOT. No more waking up wet, no more problems. So we are disposable at night, cloth during the day now.
