I think I have the first one down-pat-- Thanksgiving. I'll be feeding 25 or so, with 10 potential houseguests:
Thanksgiving morning: Cinnamon rolls, coffee, milk
Thanksgiving dinner: Roast turkey, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, sausage crockpot stuffing, green bean casserole, rolls and chocolate cake (anyone who offers can bring drinks/desserts-- we are not a pie-eating household)
Thanksgiving night: Various forms of leftovers
Black Friday: Sausage biscuits for the shoppers, crockpot egg casserole for the sleepers
Then various meals of leftovers, pizza, potato dumplings
I will be stocking up on paper plates, silverware and cups. Anything I'm missing?
Then, we are hosting a open house on December 4th, because many of our friends want to come and see our new home.
We have about 75 people that would like to come. I am thinking soups (chicken noodle, potato and chili) because they can stay warm in crockpots, crusty breads/rolls, cornbread, etc. and then a dessert bar with a few types of cupcakes, cookies and pretzel rods (the chocolate/sprinkle kind). I think there needs to be some sort of sandwich, but I think cold cuts are too church dinner-y.
Any good ideas? TIA.
Re: Two parties
The only thoughts for Tday is to have a fruit basket- grapefruit, oranges, and bananas, grapes. No need to clean ahead of time just things people can grab. I'd also have a loaf of bread for turkey sandwiches.
For the open house how about wraps? Smear a tortilla with some saucey thing, layer some lunch meat, top with cheese and some crunchies, roll, and slice into 4.
Standard ones I do: horseradish sauce, roast beef, gorgonzola, red onion, spinach
herb creamed cheese with a little mayo, turkey, monterey jack, arugala
dijon/mayo, ham. cheddar, lettuce
For Tday morning, something in addition to cinnamon rolls would be nice. (I dislike cinnamon rolls - I know that makes me communist or whatever :P)
You are a braver woman than I if you're willing to serve soup, particularly chili, to 75 people inside your home. Goodbye upholstery, goodbye carpet. Soup is something that needs to be eaten sitting down, so it's not a great party option IMO. Little wraps like 6 described would be better. Serve with a couple little savory app options and you're set.

Yes-- the menu was screaming for something healthy and fresh (not that I don't like a good green bean casserole...)
Good point about the soups. I didn't think of the need to sit option.
I like the wrap idea, but here is my problem-- I have learned that I can't make my guests into the cocktail party set, as much as I would like them to be. Any ideas for a meat-and-potatoes crowd?

Bahahahaha!!
Unfortunately, that would be considered "classy" by a high percentage of the guests!
I love them, but sophisticated, they are not.
