Critique My Menu...

Hello Ladies! It's that time... I'm hosting a Hundred Acre Woods theme baby shower on Sunday and I feel like my menu needs some creative ideas. This is what I have so far:

Pooh-nut Butter Sandwiches- Peanut Butter & Honey/Jelly

Piglets in a Blanket- self explanitory

Rabbits Garden Grub- Veggie tray with broccoli, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and veggie dip.

Tigger's Jumping Jell-O- Orange/blue striped jello jigglers.

That's all I have so far. The shower will start at 2:30 and we will have cake as well. I feel like the menu is lacking something and I also need an idea for punch.

As you can see, I'm trying to stick with the Winnie the Pooh theme. I don't have anything for Kanga or Roo, Owl, Christopher Robin, or Eeyore.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! TIA! :)

Re: Critique My Menu...

  • This is for adults right?  You have peanut butter sandwiches, pigs in a blanket, veggies and jello.    It's time to start thinking about what food people will want to eat and if the names don't fit so be it.

    Christopher Robin's eggs? (deviled eggs).

    Wise potato chips (wise Owl)

Eeyore Tails?  I don't know what you could use for a tail, but maybe pretzel rods with a pink chocolate bow?

I would get some real food in there no matter what though- cheese and crackers, pasta salad skewers, bruschetta, something.

Yes. Let the decor be your theme, not your food.

I think there's an internet trend to focus more on being creative than being a good hostess.  A good hostess makes her guests feel welcome and comfortable and serves great food & drink.

I went to a baby shower on Saturday that had no theme and no games, just great food, a delicious punch, and plenty of time to chat with friends.  It was wonderful.  And it was wonderful because it had delicious food (it was at 10:30, so scrambled eggs, bread-sausage-egg-cheese casserole, fruit, homemade doughnut holes, and an OJ-ginger ale slushy punch) and the hostess wasn't trying to corral us all into cheesy games.  It felt like a daytime cocktail party.

So, ladies, I'm back on my anti-theme soapbox.  For this, get some cute Pooh napkins or tuck a little Pooh into the flower arrangement and call it good.  Then serve delicious food that people will remember :)

    Yes, yes, yes!

  • If I came to your party, all I would eat are veggies. I think that you have too much toddler food and not enough shower food.

Like the other ladies said, let the decor be your theme. If you wanted to plan a "normal" menu and give it cute names, that is one thing, rather than planning the food around the cute names.

  • Rabbit and Piglet are good...

drop the pooh nut sandwiches and the tigger's jumping jell-0 those are too much of a stretch trying to fit in the theme...

Can you do some kind of glazed chicken nuggets incorporating honey...Pooh's honeypot chicken...or a salad that has honey in the dressing. Do something with honey and call it "Pooh's honeypot ____"

n-u-double g-ets Chicken nuggets for tigger (not actual kids chicken nuggets but something adult oriented)...you can even do pretzel nuggets.

    Something spicy-hOWLing something

I think if 3 of your items food items incorporate the theme, along with the cake you are good...build a menu around these things but you need some actual food there. Not technically lunch time but I wouldn't eat lunch if I was going to a shower.
