Re: So, how was Halloween?
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? DH took DD while I stayed home to hand out candy. He said she did a great job, occasionally forgetting to say Trick-or-Treat first - she'd greet them with Thank You, but hey, as long as she was polite, I'm not complaining. She had a ball. Houses with anything scary-looking were skipped. My kid's a skittish one like her Mama.
Favorite costumes? A little boy, about 3-yrs old, dressed as Mr. Incredible. A little girl about 7-yrs old as Hermione. A tiny ladybug. A dog in a hot dog costume.
Anything else? One sweet little boy who was covered in white feathers (I have no idea what he was supposed to be, but he was about 2 and ADORABLE) came up, handed me a Fun Dip, then took the Reese's I handed him. He was trading! I gave him back the Fun Dip and he just smiled and toddled off.
When the first Trick-or-Treater came to the door, Minerva-the-cat escaped between my legs, but he only got as far as the kid coming up the steps. Minerva took one look at the kid in the mask and hauled it back into the house, terrified. I laughed my rear off.
One boy, probably 12 or 13, came in only a ski mask and didn't say "thank you" when I gave him candy. Then he tried to come back for round two. I told him no and shooed him away. Next year I'm putting my foot down, I don't care if it does make me the mean lady: no costume, no candy. No "trick or treat", no candy. No "thank you" and I'm yelling "YOU'RE WELCOME" at them.
Between trunk or treat at school on Friday, a Halloween party with her class today and trick or treating tonight, my kid has enough candy to last her six years. She doesn't eat a lot of candy! I'm going to sort through, pull out her favorites, and dole them out as treats over the coming few months. The rest DH will take to work, he and I will munch on, or we'll toss. Ah, abundance. We're so spoiled.
Someone's getting a little brother!
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? Not a lot, but some cute ones.
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? Our neighbor has a fire in her driveway every year and we sit outside by the fire, eat snacks, drink warm drinks, and pass out candy. Keefe dressed up and stayed outside with us for the two hours.
Favorite costumes? A sock monkey costume.
We've never really had any trick or treaters - a couple of kids our first year here but none since. We still left a bowl of candy on the front porch before we went out just in case. Some were missing when we got back - but I suspect it was just the twenty-somethings that share a driveway with us. :b
We had a GREAT night. Maddox dressed as a bee and instead of trick or treating (seemed weird for a 1 year old to be asking for candy) we brought honey to the half dozen people we visited - our three favorite neighbors and then off to Baltimore to surprise Brad's parents, my parents and my grandmother/Maddox's "GG". Such a fun night.

Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? Yes, but we didn't run out of candy this year
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? Ava and I went out a couple time. She was so darn cute. She really liked sitting on the porch and handing out the candy.
Favorite costumes? a little boy and girl were dressed like the Roaring 20's.
I think we got about 40 or so ToTers - more than last year but not that many overall (our house is off a main street so I think that's why.) They start early in my neighborhood! they were ToTing at 530 - we never started until later than that.
Some people tried harder than others ha in terms of costumes - some of the "kids" were wearing backpacks and calling themselves schoolboys. Um okay.
My favorite was a mother trick or treating with her son - he had to be 2 years (so was walking and talking but still obviously very young) and she was dressed as Luigi and he was dressed as Mario.
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? Yes, we ran out of candy. I gave 2 pieces each, so we must have got over 50 kids. I couldn't believe it.
Favorite costumes? I gave the side eye to the 2 kids without costumes. One boy had a homemade robot spaceman costume that was really cool. It even had a cut out slot to insert candy. That was creative.
Anything else? I also gave the side eye to the kid who screamed at me for not filling both her candy buckets. I then realized she was carrying a bucket for a baby in a stroller down by the sidewalk. WTF? Who screams at a neighbor? My Cooking Blog
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? No, the only visitors we had last night were the raccoon family chowing down on the stale bread I threw out.
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? No kids but I dressed our dog up this weekend. Pic below.
Favorite costumes? N/A
Anything else? I miss trick or treating. It's just not the same buying a bag of candy for yourself.
30-50 TOTers, but we live on a main road, so I think most of the kids go to the houses on the quieter streets behind ours.
I took DD to a few neighbors on , but we really don't know many people in the area and my neighbors on either side of our TH don't give out candy !
Honestly, I am generally not impressed with the cheapy looking store-bought costumes, especially the ones with printed things on them. My neighbors daughter was a cow girl, which was really cute.
I find it both sad and funny that parents will not only bring their kids TOTing, but will also have their own bag to fill up!
Also, there is TOTing at daycare, but they hand out "healthy snack". Honestly, with the hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and gelatin in most of the stuff (Teddy grahams, cereal bars, candy corn), plain old chocolate is actually better for you than than crap. Besides, it's Halloween!
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? Just a few. I wanted to just give the candy away, but DH was handing out the candy so he was only giving two away at a time.
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? We took Annabelle T&T around 6ish. She lasted about 20 minutes and then wanted to be carried.
Favorite costumes? Ladybug of course.
Anything else?I was home last night alone and I wasn't feeling well so I didn't hand anything out. I think next year we will actually hand out candy. Even when we do hand stuff out we don't get many. Maybe 30-50 kids. What I don't like are the parents who bus their kids into the TH neighborhoods in order to get more candy. That seems really greedy to me.
AnyHoooo. I got these two pictures sent to me last night of my nephews. So darn cute.
"Buzz Liggert" went out with Daddy through their neighborhood ToTing and Mommy and the skeleton stayed home to hand out. Then when Buzz got home he got to hand out what he received. He thought that was the coolest thing. Next year I don't think they'll be that lucky! LOL.
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? I think we got at least 50. This was the first year we've been home to hand out candy since we've lived here, so I was excited to see how it goes down in our 'hood. We didn't get any rude kids which was awesome!
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? Caelan is too young for ToT though I did put him in his costume for a couple pics.
Favorite costumes? My fav was a little girl (maybe 1.5?) who was a lady bug. She was too fascinated by our cats to listen to her parents prompting her to say "trick or treat"! It was cute.
Anything else? I was really looking forward to this Halloween and it actually pretty much sucked. As soon as I got home from work at 5:30, DH said he didn't feel well and was going to bed so he left me to be on my own with DS and all the Halloween stuff. I'm lucky I got any pics of DS in his costume because he was only in it for about 5 mins. Hopefully next year will be better.BFP#1: 01/10, M/C 6w -- BFP#2: 06/10, M/C 5w -- BFP#3: 09/10, DS born June 1, 2011

Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? We got about 100, some showed up at 5:30 though. DH stayed home and handed out candy
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? We went to about a dozen houses, maybe 15; took about 45 mintues. She had a blast - even though she made me carry her bucket after about 5 houses, b/c she also insisted on taking a tiny pumpkin with her. She whispered Trick or Treat and Thank You most of the time, but didn't really want to say it loudly. We went by one neighbor who had a scary yard w/ mummies and skeletons in the ground - DD was like "what happened to that man?" she wasn't scared, but she noticed.
When we got home, she helped DH hand out candy - and ate a few pieces of hers. She insisted on carrying the giant bowl w/ the candy; very funny.
Favorite costumes? My butterfly baby!
Anything else? The parade at DD's school was pretty much the cutest thing ever.
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? We handed out candy then caught up with my sister, BIL, and nephew. My nephew really needs to learn how to pick candy lol. When offered a choice, he code pretzels or lollipops.
Favorite costumes? This adorable little boy (2ish) was Scooby Doo. Anything else? I got hustled by a three year old! She came to the door with a near empty bag and said in a pitiful voice "I don't have much candy because my mom keeps eating it all." To which I replied "Aww here have three pieces since your mom took your candy." She said Thank you then ran away laughing, "My mom didn't really eat my candy!".
DH watched The Descent last night because it always comes up on lists of scariest movies. It was decent but not super scary.
Ours started off slow but picked up after 7. I'd say we had about 50 or so.
DH gave a disproportionate amount of candy to the toddler in a fuzzy Testudo costume. Clear favorite.

Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house? Yes there were tons. It started super early this yr too, or so it seems. Maybe daylight savings is typically earlier?!?!
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? Yes and wonderful.
Favorite costumes? here comes the conceited part...my daughter's costume. She was a peacock. We didn't walk by one person without them commenting or stopping us and raving about how cute she was. She was definitely a hit.
Anything else?
I am 99% sure we don't get any ToTers- as we live on a busy road that goes through our neighborhood.
We probably hit about 12 houses inside our neighborhood before stopping at our neighbors' house for pizza & wine. The older kids (like 7 and up) continued on in the neighborhood, while those of us w/ littler ones just chilled out. It was nice.
We have tops 25 kids of ToTing age in our neighborhood, so it's not a huge variety of costumes. We had at least 5 pirates last night, including my kids.
Both of my kids slept until 9 am this morning! DD has school, but DH made the call last night that she wouldn't be going because she was coughing in her sleep. She has a v. low grade fever (under 100) but her nose is runny, etc. So we are home today- and shockingly she hasn't asked for any candy yet!
It was chaotic but good. DS got to go TOTing at school AND again when he got home last night. He loved it. He had a little too much sugar, but whatever. its once a year.
I attempted to stay here and answer the door while DH took him around the neighborhood but it was a bit challenging since there was an infant attached to me most of the evening.
The neighborhood kids pleasantly surprised me and were polite and had great costumes. Only a handful of teenagers with no costumes and DH gave them a hard time
Did you get a lot of ToTers at your house?
We had 3 groups, probably a total of 20 kids. Kind of disappoining, but still exciting since this was our first Halloween in our new home.
If you have kids, did you take them ToTing? How did it go? No kids
Favorite costumes? Baby in a pumpkin suit.
