Q about LinkedIn

From time to time, people I know will send me invitations to connect with them on LinkedIn. I always ignore the requests because I'm not on LinkedIn myself. Is that rude of me? Am I doing the equivalent of ignoring a FB friend request?

Re: Q about LinkedIn

  • It's only "rude" if you have an account, so I wouldn't worry about it if you don't have an account.

For what it's worth, I've been on the site for seven years and have joined a number of industry groups. I personally have found the networking with other individuals in my industry (but outside my company) has helped me gain a better insight of market information, which is something I need to have a strong grasp on for my position.  It's also exposed me to some interesting job possibilities.

Agree 100%! Only rude if you don't have an account. I use LI for networking and growing my contacts mostly :-)

  • Personally, I don't think it's rude at all.  For things like linkedin, I forget who I send requests to anyway so it not a big deal whether you accept or not.
