Our anniversary plans got cancelled a month ago because of a few different things it just didn't work out. We made plans to go away this weekend to the Belamere. Well, they have a one week cancellation policy, so if you don't cancel within a week of your reservation you are out the money, no exceptions unless they can re-rent it out. Not even death, I asked.
So, my grandpa is dying. Any day now he is going to be gone. It could happen today, tomorrow, we don't know. He was 25% dehydrated Sunday, he won't eat or drink, he is 92 so the decision has been made to do no IV fluids or meds to keep him alive. He is on inpatient hospice and being given Morphine every hour to keep him out of pain. He is non-coherrent and only says one thing over and over "Help me god" It is so sad.
I know that if he dies within the next day or two we just won't be able to go to Belamere this weekend.
Would you call them and ask them to see if they can re-rent the room now or wait it out??
My idea is to not wait and get on it now so we have a better chance of not losing over $400.
This sucks.
Of course my grandpa could be a fighter and hold on another week too, we just don't know.
So, WWYD if you were me?
Re: WWYD - supposed to go away this weekend
Update - I told them to attempt to re-book it.
It is just too much of a gamble and $460 is a lot of money to lose. They will call me when they find someone to take it just to make sure we still don't want it which is nice because if he hasn't passed by Friday I think it would work out for us to go. I just don't want to have him pass today or tomorrow and have the funeral over the weekend and then lose the money for the room.
I wish we could line up a babysitter and it wasn't a drill weekend because I'd save you the headache right now. But alas...that ain't gonna happen.
But yeah, given your situation, I think trying to cancel at this point is probably your best option. Just rebook at another time.
We were supposed to go to Columbus for a weekend in September. Canceled our plans because I was just back to work for a month and not getting full paychecks yet (catching up on my deductions) so it was really tight. DH forgot to cancel the hotel room until it was too late.
Phew, they rebooked it within a few hours of my phone call!!!!
Also, my grandpa passed around 2:45 p.m. surrounded by all of his family. I'm glad I was there.
