Hi there!
I will be in your fair city a week from Fri with the BF. We will be taking it easy, and just doing restaurants, & maybe a winery (depending on the weather), hopefully a massage too! Oh yeah, if VT is home, we might venture to that.
Is anything going on that weekend or are there any must-dos?
Thanks!
Re: Hey UDscooby...
Oh gosh, Happy Belated UD... what did you do???
Ugh, it was a terrible day, actually (see the "Monday" post!), but thankfully today is going much better! And I'm having a big party on Saturday, which will be fun!
So, if I'm looking at my calendar right, that's the weekend of the 11th?
There's about a billion wineries in the area. This website has a pretty good listing. Some of my personal favorites are Hilltop (fruit wines only) and Horton (a huge selection of everything from red to white to fruit to dessert wines). Veritas is the most beautiful winery I've ever been to. There are also a couple breweries (Devil's Backbone and Blue Mountain are the first ones to come to mind) and a cider place.
As far as restaurants go, most of the good, trendy ones are on the downtown mall. Zocalo is very good. I've heard really good things about Brookville and Positively 4th, but haven't tried them yet. Mas is not downtown, but is quite excellent--they don't take reservations, and it's a small place, so get there early. C&O is known for being the original fine dining restaurant in Charlottesville. If you're looking for really special occasion, try Palladio at Barboursville Vineyard (I haven't gone yet, due to the price). The Corner area is definitely undergrad territory, but it has a few good, casual places, too--Littlejohn's is a 24-hr sandwich shop that's great! Try Bodo's (yummy bagels!) or Spudnuts (donuts made of potato flour) for breakfast. If it's not too cold, Arch's has yummy frozen yogurt with all sorts of mix-ins. And if it is cold, Revolutionary Soup will warm you up! I could go on and on--Charlottesville is very much a "foodie" town!
Other cool things to do in the area are Monticello (Jefferson's home...there's a restaurant nearby called Michie Tavern that serves traditional southern food), Ash-Lawn Highland (Monroe's home), or Montpelier (Madison's home).
