Re: New Hyperbole and a Half

  • I didn't find it all that funny.  I mean, I'm glad she wrote about her depression (and came back to us!) but yeah, no funny.

Agreed.  Mostly, I found it depressing.

  • I read it last week when it came up on my reader - I agree, it wasn't funny, but I don't think she really meant it to be either. It was pretty heartbreaking, but revealing look at how some people deal with depression.
  • I was going to say "about time" until I saw why she was away for so long.  I hope that it's a good sign that she blogged about her depression and that she'll get back to being her old self again soon.

  • Do you think she broke up with her partner? I just thought it was interesting that there was no mention of him at all.
  • I don't know.  I wouldn't think that would be "sad for no reason."  I suppose he could have been a douche and left her in the middle of her depression.

I read it last week as well. I thought it was incredibly sad.

  • Alas I posted before I read. It is sad. :( Maybe it's the stress of writing a book. I hope she comes out of her funk and is happy again.

    I wondered that too.

I wondered that as well. It also made me want to rent a bunch of terrible movies and get a bunch of skittles.

  • I really liked it, and I related to it a lot.  I mean sometimes there really is no reason or one that you can think of that would make it 'legit'.  It gives a very realistic approach to what depression feels like.  Even with a spouse I felt like I was alone even though he was there trying to support me.

I completely agree. I mean I am on the other side where I am the spouse who is supporting but, as a spouse you have a very real image of what it is and reading this was nice. It was very relate-able.

  • I'm so glad I saw this post!  I was really starting to wonder what happened to her - haven't read it yet, but sounds like some rough stuff.  I hope she's ok and can get back into writing her funny posts!
