DS and I made those cupcakes yesterday.
Super cute. He decided his favorite part was the frosting.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: Oh, hey BeeBee
Yes-- I guess I thought they were cupcakes when I copied them. Maybe I should open the blog more? But the last cake made me mad when I realized that it was all peanut butter (I kid, I kid) They would be much awesome-r as cake balls!
But, yes, they were great, so thanks anyway!
I know everyone does it differently, but I mix together one cake and the equivalent of a can of frosting (usually they are like 12 ounce, I almost always end up using homemade that I have left over from something or other). Form mixture into balls, freeze for at least an hour (up to several months) and then dunk in melted chocolate or candy melts. Decorate as you like. Full directions on my bloggy and a million others on the interwebs.
I actually made some adorable cake balls for a baby shower last week, I've been meaning to post the pictures.
I'm making cake balls for Christmas gifts this year, because I'm being cheap. I've been trying to think of different flavors and testing out. So far, I've only made Root Beer Float flavored ones. Vanilla cake w/ root beer extract, Vanilla candy coating with root beer extract. Pretty darn good. My sister's kids loved them.
I've got the stuff to make a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (like my favorite drink at Starbucks) and the ever popular Funfetti.
I've made Peppermint Chocolate ones before, and Orange Creamsicle. Thinking about making Strawberry Lemon ones.
kmw, tell me more about the salted caramel ones!
I like to do chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting dipped in dark chocolate!
I have done Irish Car Bomb cakeballs - using the ingredients to my Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes (Guiness dark chocolate cake, Jameson ganache, Baileys frosting), dipped in white chocolate.
The eyeballs pictured in my sig have red velvet cake inside.
Yummy!
I cant hear you, i cant hear you!
okay really when you combine alcohol with my love for cake then i am really screwed. i am not usually a fan of cakeballs but um those sound heavenly.
i haven't made them yet, but in theory, this is how they'll work:
Milk Chocolate cake.
Vanilla Candy Coating w/ Caramel Extract.
a few grains of super-coarse salt on top for sparkles and flavor.
I'm hoping they're as delicious as they sound. I really need to make them soon.
Ah okay, that's why.
I have never tried that stuff, it kind of freaks me out in its giant blocks! Is it yummy?
