I am *bored* please entertain me!!

I should be working and I AM working but I am mental mush so...I need something - anything!!  Tell me your complaints - let me solve your decorating problems - hell, tell me the color of your most recent BM - I don't care! I am THAT bored!

Re: I am *bored* please entertain me!!

  • I need something to go above my fireplace. Something BIG. A mirror? Collage of pictures? One big picture? It's an all stone fireplace with a dark wood mantle. I don't have a picture of it... :(

    What do you think?

Out of curiosity....why do you need anything?  That stone was EXPENSIVE- why cover it up?

For the record, I have no idea what the h-e-double hockey sticks to put on mine either. I do know I am tired of the same ole, same ole. Mirrors are overdone. Right now I have a huge bridal portrait of myself which seems a tad...well, stupid and anyway pictures are overdone too.

I can't help with this one, sorry.

I really like mirrors above fireplaces. Especially mirrors that are stacked (one large one, and then place a smaller one in front of it, slightly offset--there are photos on the D&R inspiration page they made, but can't find it right now).. love that look. Gives the mirror thing a slightly different twist. Would totally do it if I didn't have to have our TV over our fireplace.

Well, the stone is floor to the mantle and then it's just drywall above the mantle.

I feel like I want a family picture above the fireplace, but I'm afraid a GIANT picture might be a little much because my living room isn't huge.

I have to wear this BM dress in black next November for a wedding in DC.  Bride wants us to find red satin shoes to wear with it. I can't decide which ones to pick and I keep going back to Kate Spade - which is entirely WAY too over the top for BM shoes. I'd like to keep it under $150. I'd prefer something with a heel, but we've also been instructed these are shoes we have to keep on all night... So which red, satin shoes would you pick to wear with this dress?

We have pictures over our fireplace. Instead of one huge picture we did 6 8x10 pictures. I think it looks really nice.

  • I'm currently losing my sh!t because I found out that the house we are building is wired for an electric stove and now it's going to be on my dime to put a gas line in because I refuse to use an electric cook top.  I should have been given the option.  Just like how I showed up to the house last week and we had a garage door.  A garage door that I was not even consulted on.  I am not a happy camper right now!

  • I need curtains for my living room.  I think I am going to have them made because I can't find any double-triple width panels that are at least 108" long.  I also would like a tone on tone pattern...what pattern I have no idea.

So if you want to find me some curtains, have at it.  Or, you can PM me the name of the lady you use to have yours made and tell me if you were happy with her work! :)

LOL. I would buy the Kate Spade shoes - sorry!  I love Kate Spade and own probably 20 pairs of her shoes. They are timeless, you can't beat them up, and they fit ahhhh-mazing.  I am not sure what you "do" IRL but I work in a very conservative profession and am able to pull off red shoes without looking (too much) like a slutty mcslutterson. I say, by the Kate Spades and wear the hell out of them.

Now that I've experienced both, I much prefer a gas cook top as well.  Gas was actually cheaper than electric for us, so hopefully it won't cost you much to get it changed over.

As for the garage door--were you wanting custom doors (carriage style w/ hardware, etc), or is the color just wrong?

I'd be reaming my builder's ass right about now if I were you...those are two important things I would expect to be consulted about.

Are any of your utlities gas? If so, it isn't THAT expense to have a gas line ran - we just did it. I can give you the name of our plumber - he is awesome.

If you don't have gas utilities, I have no idea how it works. But you need to get it done before they lay flooring just in case the concrete needs to be cut out. I think the above process cost $800 which - is not mortifyingly expense but not cheap - but I am sorry, an electric cooktop will not do (as you are aware).

Maybe a framed picture (like, not poster sized, more like 20x20 or something?) in the center with two candle sticks on one side and a pretty vase with sticks/greenery on the other side?  Or if you prefer symmetry, topiaries on each side?  Since the holidays are approaching, you could put a fat Christmas wreath up there...that's what I'm doing the day after Thanksgiving!  I usually have a mirror above the mantle (typical, but I like it) with two vases (a smaller and a larger one) on one side and a vase with grass like greenery on the other. I also have a small (5x7) picture frame set next to the vase of B.

  • I apologize for all of my spelling errors. I (mostly) know how to spell, I just don't care enough to edit, please don't be offended.

Boymom - in reality, our curtain lady fired me.  This is because I kept selecting materials that was too heavy for her to sew on her own, according to my husband's grandmother who may or may not have been telling the truth.  I am guessing any fabric store can give you the name of someone that can make them for you but man, I loved my girl (lady).

As far as tone on tone - I am pretty sure I have seen some tone on tone zebra somewhere - I love tone on tone zebra. God only knows why.

Oh baby, I love this one - http://compare.ebay.com/like/380349058912?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Load up that baby and head on up to Vu's in Edmond - she has the best stuff and a nice range of prices.  I think she makes drapes as well......

  • Alrighty puppy--I talked to a cleaning service out of OKC and they're coming to do an estimate for me on Thursday.  The woman I talked to was very nice and from the web site I believe the job will be pretty thorough (as long as they do all that's listed).  She said she would have 3 people come to clean and it would take 2-4 hours to do the entire house. (minus the upstairs--no one has been up there and I do it once a month myself).  Considering I clean the whole house by myself in about 5-7 hours pretty decently, I figured this would be about right...especially with three people working.  They're doing baseboards, dusting plantation shutters, the works--and she said it would probably only cost around $85-90 each time.  I thought that was insanely cheap.  If they're good, I'll let you know and perhaps you can have them come do your house to see if you like them too.

That's a very pretty fabric--I wish I could see it in person without having to buy a yard of it.  I will make a trip up to Vu's and see what I can find.  My mom is coming up tomorrow so we might wander up there if we can't find any other trouble to get into.

My other issue is finding a curtain rod that will stretch across the three windows--do they make extra extra long rods?  I can't find any that will fit the length I need and maybe a trip to Vu's will solve this.  The windows from outer edge to outer edge are about 12 feet--so I'd need the rod to be around 15' wide I'd guess to hold the bulk of the curtain without covering the window when I want them open.

All of this makes me very overwhelmed and scared that I'll absolutely hate anything I pick out.  I'd just go ahead and put plantation shutters on the windows, but I'm scared it will make the living room dark even when they're open.

  • Complaint: a teacher was out today because she lost her voice. I'm sorry, why can't you still have your students do an activity with no voice? Orchestra kids can do just as much sectionals with any non-music teacher as they can with you there, without a voice.

So, I rehearsed them instead. And they thanked me for it.

Last week I was on antibiotics because I got the stitches (that should have dissolved) pulled out of my thumbflesh. They wreaked havoc on my digestive system and H and I have to use backup birth control for the next two and a half weeks. I even bought said backup. I am angry at my antibiotics because they suuuuuucked while I was taking them, but my thumb almost looks brand new. It's almost like it never happened, and the new skin is as soft as the day I was born.

I'm having carnitas for dinner from the crockpot (made a month ago and frozen). Are they authentic? Hell no. Are they tasty? Hell yeah.

I'm seriously considering having H take me to Cajun King for my birthday Friday night, and getting fairly drunk on Saturday night here with friends. It's the kind of release I need right now, Cajun buffet and alcohol lol.

I'd like this rec too if you don't mind.  My last cleaning-person experience was very bad and I need to bring someone in to get the deep cleaning stuff again (or you know, make the time to do it myself).

Speaking of recommendations, would you be willing to PM me the name of your builder and any related recommendations you might have?  I understand this guy isn't getting a positive review at the moment, but more information is good to have.  We're looking for a builder now and I'd like to know if it is one of the builders we're considering.

Dude, we totally need to meet IRL.  I am a Kate Spade whore.  I am trying to get DH to be a Jack Spade whore but he won't budge.

  • Yes, I wanted the carriage style and I "came home" to the traditional door with the wainscot panels. He had no problem switching it out, but in the end we compromised. I'm keeping the original door and he is going to upgrade the hardware for me. It's just the fact that I wasn't even asked that bothered me. We're going to have a long talk tomorrow.

We do have a gas water heater and fireplace so it can be done. I'm glad I at least have a number to go off of. The builder said it wasn't a huge deal, but he'd have to get back with me on the cost. I still don't think I should have to pay for it though! Hopefully after our talk tomorrow I won't be!
