*OJO*

There is a couple selling their dog on our Virtual Yardsale facebook page. I thought about you.....

Re: *OJO*

  • Did they give a reason?

  • Not on the general site... she posted all these pictures and people started asking if it was for sale. $600 OBO. :(  Dog is < 1yr old.
  • One of the (many) things that annoys me about my base's yard sale site is that people say, "Husky, $900 firm. Paid $800 less than a year ago. Comes with treats and toys." It just blows my mind to see people considering a dog an appreciating or depreciating *thing*. Unless the dog has been through intense training (not obedience training, but like shutzhund or something) dogs don't appreciate...most people silly enough to buy a dog in that situation want puppies, usually puppies too young to leave the mother. And people who have dogs in shutzhund and agility competitions aren't the ones selling/giving away their dogs. Gah, I get really worked up about that. If you're comfortable posting, it might not hurt to ask if there's anything you could do to help the dog stay with their owner. Maybe they have misunderstandings about quarantine (super common, ugh), they're having trouble training, or maybe they have a Rudi on their hands and don't realize he's got major mental issues. IDK. It took each of my strays over a year to really settle in and be comfortable being playful in our house. Being abandoned is really tough on some dogs.

  • For me, my dog is a family member and is always a part of our "life decisions". Irresponsible pet owners really upset me as well.

I knew a person that was trying to sell their dog (same breed as our dog) they purchased the puppy for $300 but were trying to sell her for $900. Let's just say I had words with them.. their original reason was "the work" with 2 kids. WHATONEARTHWEREYOUTHINKINGINTHEFIRSTPLACE!?! NTM the breed is awesome with families/kids. They ended up keeping her but I still have concerns for her care.

As for the family in the original post, I can't find the post on the facebook anymore. :(
