New Kitty!

So after the whole incident with the cat we brought home from Dh parents home, we decided to go adopt a 'kitten' I only say it like that cause the girl we found is already 8months old. The pound/animal shelter was going to spay her yesterday, but couldn't because she got an upper respiratory infection (cause they don't take care of there animal there) she wasn't sneezing on Friday when I went in to look and see what they had for adoptions, and they made me leave her there over the weekend now shes sick....

But never fear when they called to tell me they couldn't do the operation on her Monday they first offered me the option to pick another cat...um I DON'T think so.I picked her up and took her the vet, which they offer a free first time in/ health check up for pound animals and sure enough I had to get her on antibiotics and what not. so hoping that t works and shes starts to feel better soon! shes a great cat, shes well behaved!  Ill post  some photos of little willow, that what we decided to call her, once i find my camera.

Re: New Kitty!

  • That's so exciting!  But don't get angry at the shelter. It's very common for shelter animals to get upper respiratory infections, and it's not for lack of care.  Shelters are already strapped for cash as it is, which is why they are so desperate for donations of blankets, towels and food.  And with so many animals never getting adopted, you have to understand that the shelter could never afford to give medicine to such animals.

With Willow, I should suggest to you that you should request a full blood workup before she get spayed to make sure she's nice and well before she goes under anaesthesia.  My friend's cat with an URI passed away on the operating table when she was spayed.  They found out the cat had asthma on top of everything, and the anaesthetic was just too much for it.  I'm sure Willow will be fine with her meds, but better safe than sorry.

Our Purrfessor had an URI as well when we adopted her from the SPCA.  She also developed conjunctivitis and had severe ear mites, but luckily she came with 3 months of free pet insurance.  It took her a long long time to get over her URI, and we think now that she may just have had seasonal allergies. Still, she was right as rain by the time she was spayed, and everything turned out fine.

Can't wait to see pictures of Willow!  She's just a month older than Purrfessor, so she's certainly still a kitten in my books!

  • Aw yay!

I hope she gets better quick now that she has meds, and then she can get spayed.

But I look forward to the pics.
