iphone or Tablet?

I want to get either an iphone or a Kindle Fire. I am not sure if I need both.

What can't I do with an iphone that I can do with a tablet besides read books?

I don't even know everything that can be done them so I hope this isnt a stupid question! Thanks!

Re: iphone or Tablet?

  • iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch have a Kindle app (and a bunch of other book-reading apps) that let you read e-book files.

I have an iPhone and I like that I have all the apps, internet, and my books right on my phone.  I don't have to carry around a tablet + a cell phone.  If you Google "iPod vs. Kindle" you'll find a ton of articles comparing the two.

  • Thanks that is helpful. So I guess I would buy a tablet if I want a bigger screen. Otherwise the iPhone has everything else including the ability to make phone calls or course. Is this right?

  • I'd say the biggest thing is the screen.  I've read books on my phone before and it's a pain, in my opinion.  If you want to use it for reading often, I would get an e-reader or tablet.  The Kindle Fire seems like a good option to me, but it has WiFi only so that could be an issue if you're often in areas without WiFi.  Since I already have a smartphone for things like e-mail, the regular Kindle with 3G is good enough for my needs, but everyone is different.  The iPhone can do everything you want, but for me it's not as convenient to do everything on a tiny screen, so I'd rather carry two devices.

  • If you get any of your books from a "free source" you won't be able to load them onto you iPhone's Kindle app. Just a quick FYI on that. You will be able to view your purchased books on your Kindle app.

With a tablet you'll have Flash (I am almost certain) but with an iPhone you don't have Flash capabilities.  A lot of websites use Flash so you won't be able to access their websites.

  • I have an iPhone, IPad, and a regular kindle.  I would say my phone is great for everything but reading a book the screen is too small and I love my phone.  My kindle is great to read books and there is no glare in the sunlight.  I haven't played with my iPad yet( hubby wants to be home when I open my birthday gift) but my iPad is kind of a replacement for my laptop.
