follow up to vinegar as fabric softener
I tried it with two loads of towels, and after the towels had been dried, I smelled them and could definitely smell the vinegar. Did I use too much? What did I do wrong? I don't want to use it on my clothes if I am going to smell like vinegar.

This was just plain white vinegar, right?
How much did you use? I use about 1/4 C as fabric softener (in a Downey ball because our washer doesn't have a dispenser for it), have for years, and I have never been able to smell it after it's done rinsing.
Huh...weird. I've never smelled vinegar on the dried clothing/items.
