Xmas gift ideas for inlaws

Im at a loss for gifts for my inlaws (parents and sis in law). I know its early to talk about this but Id like some help. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. I cannot go with your "typical" easy gifts.

FIL is a pastor, they are religious, dont drink, dont smoke, dont drink coffee. Wont go to see a broadway show, rarely go out to eat except local pizza place. They are difficuly! lol

TIA

Re: Xmas gift ideas for inlaws

  • What about having DS make them a picture frame. They have those ones you color right onto at Michaels and putting a photo of DS into it.

A nice Christmas platter with homemade goodies on it all wrapped in cellophane.

Ornaments (see my post below for a cute photo cube one I am making)

Something for outside - outdoor furniture, bird house/bird bath

GC to their local pizza place or omaha steaks.

any collectibles they have that you could add onto

  • How about a calendar using pictures of your family. Put all of the birthdays and special occasions through the year. My SIL makes this for my parents and they love it because it is something they can use throughout the year.

This is what we're doing.  My inlaws are similar to yours if you replace "pastor" with "ex-priest".  They don't like books, television, or games.  FIL doesn't drink and is diabetic so no food gifts.  They don't like music unless it's the symphony.  The only art they like is what's in the SF Moma, and every electronic gift we get (like a digital photo frame loaded with pictures) sits in a box collecting dust.

  • I like the calendar suggestion a lot. Also, another thing that came to mind for me was Charming Charlies (At least for the ladies). We just got a CC store a few months ago near our place, and I went in there for the first time on Tuesday. OMG, they have so many accessories and I thought of about 8 of my friends and what I wanted to get them for Christmas presents while browsing each section by color!!! Yes, the only store I've been to that is literally organized by color. Very cool. Hair clips, headbands, scarves, earrings, necklaces, hats, etc. They might not go out much, but they have to go grocery shopping once in a while and fill up for gas. No one wants to walk around without looking their best in public. It would be a nice gift for them. The FIL, you could always do something like a money clip, or a giftcard to Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. Then he can take his wife out for a nice fancy dinner somewhere instead of the local pizza place for a change. Just a suggestion. Hope this helped. Good luck.

  • We always buy MIL a gc for her to renew her membership to Sam's club.

  • i always go the sentimental route with my inlaws. now, i do this because they OWN EVERYTHING lol. they are very well off and shopaholics. anything bought is just added to the pile of multiples they already own.

so i'm using my crafty side this year. for my MIL i am painting a .. familly tree of sorts. more like a branch. one of her brothers died not too long ago, and her parents just passed on. so each leaf will have a tiny name painted in. and it'll branch out for her children, and bloom in specific points (like a blossom for those that passed). probably doing a cherry blossoms because they represent fleeting life.

no idea what to get my FIL yet :/ i my just get something monogrammed to do with his hobbies
