So I recently got a full time job, but I'm still keeping my part time job but just cutting my hours down. So before I cut my available hours down I talked to HR and they told me I only have to be available 12 hrs during the week and 8 hrs on the weekend. So I wrote that I would like to work 13 hrs during the week and 16 on the weekend, but I can not close because I have to wake up at 4 am for my full time job.
So September 1st I turned in my info about cutting down my hours and I thought everything was fine because they never talked to me about it not being fine, and they also were scheduling me within the hours I asked for. So yesterday November 2nd, 2 months after I turned in my info they told me my request was denied. I asked her why I'm finding about it now finally and she said she didn't know and that she denied it a long time ago. Hello it's your job to tell me it was denied! I asked what the reason was and they said I need to be available more, and that I have to close. Which is not at all what I heard from HR.
So I went and talked to HR and they said I was correct and they cannot expect me to work more, or close, and that they would take care of it for me. I also told them that it seemed like they had no issue with it from the beginning because they went along with it and all of the sudden they can't, and that I'm finding out 2 months later that I can't do it like that.
Anyways, do you guys think it's right for my boss to deny my request even though it is more than what HR asked for? Did I do something wrong here?
Re: What to do???
Your boss has to deal with issues at hand, regardless of what HR wants.
The one thing you did wrong is not following up.

past that, I don't know what your job is or where. Is your boss just being a jerk, or does have have genuine staffing issues that your "requirements" create a problem for him? Yes, HR told you what you had to work - but I'm getting the sense that HR may not be fully in tune w/ what is actually needed from a staffing perspective.
I think your boss and HR need to talk!

we just hired 20 new people so they are in no way short on staff. I guess I didn't see a reason to follow up when they were going along with what I had set from the beginning and now all of the sudden they change it and say no. HR told me that it sounded like it was approved and then my manager changed her mind and said no.
