Asbestos update

My FIL had a contractor come out to our house today. I later in the month we have to vacate for a few days and the guy and his team are going to remove all the vermiculite from our attic. I guess this is good long-term and for when we need to upgrade to a bigger house. But it doesn't make me happy that I will have to leave home (and take the pets) for a few day. Especially since where we will stay is about an hour away from our jobs.

Re: Asbestos update

  • I'm sorry for the headache of having to leave for a couple of days. I bet it's a huge pain to transport all your animals. It is better for the long-term. Plus, it will give you good peice of mind knowing that your not breathing asbestos.

  • It's ok lex.  In the big picture, it's a minor inconvenience and temporary annoyance that will make your home safe for your family.  Your pets will thank you, and so will you future babies!

And better to deal with this now before those babies, imagine uprooting with your pets AND kids...

Maybe you can make it fun?  Like have a nice dinner out with DH that week, and treat it like a mini-break sorta kinda??

  • It may seem like a pain, but it really is the best decision.  You won't have to worry about breathing it in any more, and it will make a big difference when you sell the house.

Are you going to be staying with family?

  • This is actually better than I thought it would turn out. I'm a little ignorant about asbestos so I thought they would have to do something crazy like rip out your ceilings or something. Good to hear that you are going to be free of it so soon.
