IUD Q?

So, I can't really feel my strings (the midwife curved them around my cervix, so it's possible that I just can't feel them.)  but SO said that he could feel the IUD slipping out.  If I were charting, I think I would be in my luteal phase (that comes at the end of your cycle, right?)  I would have noticed if it were to have come out or dislodge?  I would have some cramping or something, right?  I soooooo do not want to be pregnant until the girls are AT LEAST in kindergarten.

Re: IUD Q?

  • He can probably feel the strings, not the IUD.  Stick your finger up there and figure it out is my best suggestion.  I've had one person complain about the strings, and another not even notice.  :  It's all ... let's call it perspective.

  • Well, when he said that, I freaked out and tried to check, and I guess my cervix is very high right now (which would place me at ovulation), because I don't think I felt it.  I was sleep-deprived, and freaking out, so maybe I wasn't concentrating, enough?  IDK.  I am just miserably scared right now, plus unsettled because I was experiencing very bad auras yesterday (that can lead into grande mal seizures) and that makes me think all sorts of weird things.

    I'm a mess right now.
  • Are you on hormonal or non IUD?

  • I've never been able to feel my strings.  If you're really worried and you still can't feel the strings, I'd suggest using protection and scheduling an appointment with your GYN to make sure everything is in place.  I agree that it's highly unlikely that the IUD would have fallen out without you noticing, so try not to stress.

    Hormonal/Mirena
  • Ok; I am OOT right now, so I was considering going to the ER just to get a placement check, if he says that he can feel what he says he can feel I am also worried about preforation or it being expelled from the ute.
  • I think that if you were going through all of that, your body would be responding.  Painfully.  Do what you need to do for peace of mind, but I would just start fishing around in there (even if it's with his parts) to see what he is talking about.  And if it's recent, the strings are probably pokey right now.  Without staring down the cave of your ute, I say I bet you're fine.  He's just being a pansy.  ;)

I don't think you need to go to the ER unless you are in pain.  My doctor assured me that if the IUD had perforated my uterus, I would be in a lot of pain.  That also only generally happens (and rarely at that) immediately after insertion.  If it were me, I'd use condoms until I got home and then go to my GYN to have my placement checked.
