My brain is not computing today. I'm knitting a hat with yarn slightly larger than called for, same size needles. It should come out slightly bigger than the original pattern, correct? Or am I thinking backwards?
Re: Yarn/sizing question
Yes, you are correct.
If you wanted to get the suggested gauge, try knitting it on smaller needles than called for--that is unless you want it in a larger size.

Thank you. I thought so but kept doubting myself. I have trouble with my hats coming out huge even if my gauge measures right, so I was doubly doubting my reasoning.
I'm making a hat for DD: Cast on 92 sts, size 6 needles, worsted, (the infant size) and it was loose on my adult size head. Maybe I just like a tighter fitting hat than most patterns? I'm using a heavy worsted, so surely it would fit, I thought.
