Poll: What Song Reminds You of Your Relationship with Your Ex?

I'm not trying to be a downer here on a Friday, but I was reminded of this last night.  XH always subtly put down my dreams or made me feel less than.  This song reminds me of that.

Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy"

What song reminds you of your relationship with your ex?

  • Carrie Underwood "When he cheats".

This came out right around the time I found out XH cheated on me but we were trying to work it out. It used to play on the radio all the time. When we were in the car, I would turn it up REALLY loud and sing along. He never had the nerve to say anything about it, lol....Ah, good times. And yes, I never claimed to be mature all the time. • Nothing really reminds me of our relationship. But a lot remind me of what I've gone through during this journey.

    Cowboy Casanova - Carrie Underwood

Stronger - Sara Evans (this one was me to a T)

    Fighter - Christina Aguilera

    it cracks me up

really just our first dance song (Little Moments, Brad Paisley) will remind me of him

  • Anything Kanye or house/techno music...also "Forever", by Chris Brown because it was our song.

  • One song that will always remind me of Dumpster Dave is "Treasure" by The Cure.  After we broke up, he tried to get me back by standing outside my window playing it on a boombox over his head like Lloyd Dobbler.  For those of you who aren't familiar with the song, the woman dies.  She freaking dies.  So.  Not.  Appropriate.

  • Adele's "Turning Tables"

Also. "Welcome to My World" by Sick Puppies

I was about to say ohh how sweet until I got to that part :) How did you even agree to date him?  You normally have a radar for crazy.  He must have been very good at hiding it.

  • Two songs by Breaking Benjamin...."Breath" and "Sooner or Later"
  • My whole relationship was a clusterfvck filled with all kinds of abuse.  I don't believe there is any one song that could accurately describe my marriage.  However, when I decided to leave him, this was my anthem that made me feel like a bad ass and made me happy at one of the darkest moments of my life.

  • Mean by Taylor Swift. It came out around the time he started this crap with me the first time, so it made me cry back then. Now it just makes me want to laugh at him.

    "You, with your switching sides
And your wildfire lies and your humiliation
You have pointed out my flaws again
As if I don't already see them
I walk with my head down
Trying to block you out 'cause I'll never impress you
I just wanna feel okay again

I bet you got pushed around
    Somebody made you cold
But the cycle ends right now
Cause you can't lead me down that road
And you don't know, what you don't know..."

(He never hit me, by the way. His weapon that he used against me daily was neglect, and then he'd make me feel like a silly child when I'd get upset about it.)

She's crafty - and she's just my type.

He was good-looking.  That's the exception to every rule, or so says my inner Barney Stinson.

  • During my absolute brokenheartedness phase, I could put on "You Were Mine" by the Dixie Chicks and just cry.  The self-pity phase involved "Once You've Loved Somebody" and "Am I the Only One".  Really, I just listened to the whole album on repeat.

The latest song to remind me of my former marriage was "Lost in Paradise" on the new Evanescence CD.

I don't claim to have good music taste here. Stick out tongue

    This is my siggy.
  • Stupid Boy would be mine too....MY XH wasnt controlling or abusive and in fact we are still friends but he definitely brought me down....
  • since I can't hear and know a very limited choices in songs, I will share a quote by Toni Morrison to participate:

?You think because he doesn't love you that you are worthless. You think that because he doesn't want you anymore that he is right -- that his judgement and opinion of you are correct. If he throws you out, then you are garbage. You think he belongs to you because you want to belong to him. Don't. It's a bad word, 'belong.' Especially when you put it with somebody you love. Love shouldn't be like that. Did you ever see the way the clouds love a mountain? They circle all around it; sometimes you can't even see the mountain for the clouds. But you know what? You go up top and what do you see? His head. The clouds never cover the head. His head pokes through, beacuse the clouds let him; they don't wrap him up. They let him keep his head up high, free, with nothing to hide him or bind him. You can't own a human being. You can't lose what you don't own. Suppose you did own him. Could you really love somebody who was absolutely nobody without you? You really want somebody like that? Somebody who falls apart when you walk out the door? You don't, do you? And neither does he. You're turning over your whole life to him. Your whole life, girl. And if it means so little to you that you can just give it away, hand it to him, then why should it mean any more to him? He can't value you more than you value yourself.?

  • In happier times- "Forever" by Chris Brown.
    Photobucket
  • The two big ones were "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood and "White Horse" Taylor Swift.
  • At the time, Taylor Swift "Just another picture to burn". I got rid of everything that was associated to him and bought all new stuff. Sold all my jewelry and replaced everything he broke with his temper.

  • This is a hard one. I can be reminded of my relationship by a myriad of songs. Some in good times and some in bad. We both loved music and we gave away CDs of our favorite songs at our wedding.

Also, I love the Toni Morrison quote that was posted. So right on!

  • I remember hearing  Foundation by Kate Nash and thinking "this is so us..." and it still makes me think of that.
  • I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas.  It's still my ringtone for him on my phone.  (We have a DD).  Ugh....any time that song comes on the radio, I change the station immediately.  Can't listen to it at all.

    This is really nice indeed.

I don't have a song that would fit into this category, but I think some of Tracy Chapman's stuff has helped me as I try to figure out how to be an awesome complete person by myself, and also an awesome complete person in my next relationship. Tracy Chapman is awesome.

  • When I'm having a bad day as far as getting over him goes, Adele's "Someone Like You" will make me cry and cry.

When I hear Shinedown's "Shed some light," it reminds me of when we were very first dating and I was in awe of him and he played this song on his stupid ipod all the time.

When I'm feeling defiant and strong, I totally echo the other girls on here - "Stronger" and "Stupid Boy" are my anthems.

'it took a while for her to figure out that she could run, but when she did, she was, long gone long gone'. Perfect.
