Fixer-upper

DH and I decided that tomorrow we would go to my mom's house and clean it up. My sister has been in and out the hospital the past couple of weeks and I've been helping as much as possible.

I'm now exploring the idea of fixing the whole house up. Medical bills have been eating up all of her spare money, and the house needs it badly. So I thought maybe send her away for a week with her boyfriend, and spend the week fixing the house up.

The only issue with this would be the funding. I'd say it'd be 10k+ for the whole project. I definitely am not looking for a handout. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on ways to maybe raise the money? I'd like to do it early next year or maybe even in March for her birthday. I plan on saving as much as I can from my own budget and my brother offered to help. I'd love to find more ideas, though.

  • I would write a letter about why you want to do the project and contact local suppliers, as well as national chains.  They may donate some materials to you.  As far as raising funds, I am not sure.  Is she part of a church community?  Unfortunately, if it's not a need and more of a want, I am not sure how much luck you will have, but it can't hurt to try.

  • Thank you. I personally think it is a need...the house makes me cringe. She needs to move or fix it up. They've been robbed a few times because of how easy it is to get in the place. It also isn't as sanitary as it could be due to things that need fixed up and with my sister being so sick, it's time something get done..
