My H broiled steaks on a cast iron grilling pan. What a huge mess! The grease splattered all over the inside of the oven. Our smoke alarms kept going off. The inside of the oven is coated with grease. It is so bad that you can see it on the window. Help!
1) What do we use to clean it? The oven has the self-clean function. However, there is no way that I'm turning that on. With all of the steak grease, it will likely start a fire.
2) What should we do to avoid this in the future? My guess is to cover the steak with foil. He said it won't cook the same.

Re: Steak grease in oven
I would wipe out as much grease as possible and then use the self clean option. I've had some greasy messes in my oven which I handled in the above way and didn't have any problems/fires etc
Good luck!
