Earthquake poll

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning?

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night?

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now?

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you?

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common?

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning?

I did not, but Kevin did and it woke Connor up, so I didn't exactly get to sleep through it all.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night?

Uh, yes.  I can't see how anyone could have missed that.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now?

I have no idea.  I am changing policies next week, so I'll at least ask about it I guess.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you?

Any that I've experienced before have been exciting, but last night's scared the crap out of me.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common?

Yes, I lived in Southern California for a while.  Last night's earthquake was larger than any I experienced there.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?

I don't have some big theory really.

  • imagefuzzylogic:

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? No we didn't.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yes. We were all up and the lights moved back and forth. It lasted a lot longer than I expected.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? No I don't, and I'll be calling on Monday about it.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? It was kind of shocking--I can't say I was scared or excited. More like WTF?!

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? No, but my sister is in Cali and is jealous of our earthquakes at the moment. She's never felt one.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? I dont have one. All of the people saying "get right with God!!!" annoy the hell out of me though.

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? Yes, but I didn't realize what it was.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yes

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? We don't have it, it makes me a little nervous, but seeing as that was the strongest we have ever had and it didn't do much I don't think it would be worth the cost.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? A little bit of both

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? Nope

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? No theory

  • Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? I was awake when it hit, so yeah. Creepiest feeling ever.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Nope. I was walking back to my friend's car from the football game, so I didn't feel it. My mom was at my apartment at the time and felt it though.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? Nope. Probably not as big of an issue for me as it is for you Nesties that live in the OKC area.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? Probably more frighten than excite. I didn't know what the crap to do on Saturday morning when it hit - I can handle tornadoes. Earthquakes, however, are a different story.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? Nope.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? One of my friends said it could be the natural gas drilling that's irritating the old fault lines. I, however, don't have my own theory.

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? Nope, I was asleep. H slept right through it. The dog woke me up, though, and she was on edge for the rest of the night.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Oh yeah. Lights swaying, rattling shelves. It took me a second to realize what it was, because the dishwasher was running and as I walked by, it hit a faster, louder cycle so I just thought it was that at first. I'm a little slow.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? Nope. My FIL does on his house, though. I always thought he was a bit weird for it, but I think a little differently now!

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? They're kind of exciting, mostly because it's so novel. Last night's was the second one I felt, and though a lot of people felt it more than we did, it was pretty cool here.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? Nope, lived here all my life.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? I don't know. Oklahoma isn't near a plate boundary, and even earthquake experts don't know what the hell causes them, and why we have had so many bigger ones. We're a very seismically active state, but usually not over a 3.0, so this is a little scary.

  • Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? No, I'm a very heavy sleeper. It woke H up, but he thought he was dreaming and went back to sleep. :)

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yes! H had just left for a trip, so I was sitting on the couch alone after watching the end of the OSU game. I knew instantly that it was an earthquake. I was surprised at how long it lasted.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? No, and probably not.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? Both. The one last night was the first one I've ever felt, so it was pretty cool. But since H was gone, and it lasted longer than I expected, I was a little freaked out.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? Nope.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? Who knows, but like PP said, I really doubt it means the end of the world is upon us, like some of my uber-religious FB friends are speculating.

  • Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? No, and I was wide awake at work too.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yes, I ran straight to a doorway after it didn't stop after a few seconds.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? I don't have it, but I am considering it for the new place.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? Scare the sh!t out of me.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? I've always lived in OK.  I have felt two other earthquaekes, but both times I've just thought I got dizzy until I heard the news.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?  My theory is that I was meant to live near a beach and one day we will have one in OK.  Not really- I don't have a theory.

  • Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? Yes! I felt the one at 2:14 am. I heard the dogs bark, then felt the bed shake. I thought "I bet that was an earthquake," then promptly fell back asleep before I could get up to check. H was so excited to tell me there was an earthquake when I got up later, but he was disappointed when I told him that I already knew.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yes. We were folding laundry in the bedroom when the low rumbling began, then the house shook for at least 30 seconds. The window blinds and stuff on the shelves rattled, but we had no damage.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? not that I'm aware of, and I doubt we'll get it.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? excite! I'm a geophysicist. Big Smile

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? no

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?  Most people don't realize it, but Oklahoma was the site of some major tectonic activity hundreds of millions of years ago, so we do have lots of faults. Among other features, Oklahoma is the home to a failed rift zone (the Southern Oklahoma Aulacogen/Wichita Uplift), where the continent tried to break apart but failed, uplifts along the Nemaha Ridge, and the Ouachita overthrust belt where another piece of a continent came crashing into Oklahoma. I think these earthquakes are a natural release of built-up stresses along the fault systems. Some people will suggest that hydraulic fracturing triggered the earthquakes. Fracing does change stress conditions and has been proven to cause small localized earthquakes in a few very limited cases, but most studies can't prove any connection between fracing and earthquakes.

    Yep

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night?

    Yep

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now?

    Nope. Nope.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you?

Excite. Annoyed last night though while I was watching football.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common?

Yep. I've been in a 6.8 earthquake. When the floor starts waving like water, then that's the time to take cover. <And remember to get under a table or brace yourself in a doorway if you don't have a table near. Check your gas lines afterwards too for hissing and smell.>

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?

    My sex life. Sorry y'all.

  • Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning? No but I did have a dream that we had an earthquake (which I told MH about before we even saw the news) so maybe I subconciously noticed it.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Uh yeah, don't know how you could miss it.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? No and No.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? Meh I would say excite I guess... I'm pretty indifferent.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? Nope.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? No theories.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Yep.

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? At first I thought it was cool, and then I was ready for it to stop.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common? No

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year? Last night on FB, among the 3 million status updates someone said... "Earthquakes in Oklahoma, LSU wins without a touchdown and OSU is #2 in the nation. Yep, Jesus is coming back. REPENT SINNER, FOR THE END IS NIGH." Cracked me up. Of course that's not my theory... I don't really have a theory. ETA: So people really think because we had an earthquake the rapture is coming? lol.

  • imagefuzzylogic:

Did you feel the earthquake(s) early Saturday morning?  Nope.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night?  YES!!!! OMG!!!  It was like it was never going to end - very scary.

Do you have earthquake insurance?  We *do* have earthquake insurance.  Our house suffered damage during the last one (was that one a year ago?).

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you?  While it was happen, we were all white as a sheet (we had a ton of people over) but about 10 minutes afterward we were like HOLY CRAP!  So...both.  A wide range of emotions.

Have you ever lived in a place where bigger earthquakes were more common?  No.

What is your theory about all the earthquakes we've had in the last year?   I have no theory other than plate-techtonics.  We live on a fault line and things occassionally have to adjust.

So what if someone was having sex during the earthquake... when someone ask what were you doing when the earthquake hit, does an inappropriate answer consist of  "my husband?"

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? oh yes!

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now?  I don't know.  I just changed a bunch of insurance stuff.  I should call and see.  If I don't, it will depend on the price

Do earthquakes excite or frighten you? I was pretty freaked to be honest. It sounded like a jet was taking off. Our dog was actually barking before it even started to shake the house. I ran straight to M's room but of course it didn't even phase her.

Did you feel the earthquake Saturday night? Nope I was driving when it happened.

Do you have earthquake insurance? If not, do you think you might look into it now? We don't but we might look into it.  I heard in Oklahoma it can be as little as $20/year because the likely hood of actually damage is so low.
