e-reader, iPad owners

So I am starting to make some padded pouches for e-readers and iPads. Just something to protect the machine if you toss it in your purse or bag. I don't actually own one, however. And I know they come in different sizes, even among one brand. My sister has the Nook color, which is longer than regular Nooks. My parents both have Kindles, which I think are the same size. And then there are iPads; I know the original and the iPad 2 are slightly different sizes.

My issue is, I don't want to have to make pouches in a gazillion different sizes. I was thinking of making 1 pouch for e-readers, large enough to fit the largest one (Nook color I think), and then it could be used for any e-reader, it would just be a little roomy for the smaller ones. Same thing for the iPads. If you have an e-reader/iPad, would you be ok with that, or would you prefer to have a pouch that fit your machine exactly?

ETA: I don't want to make these to order, I prefer to have them in my shop, ready to ship.

Re: e-reader, iPad owners

  • As long as there is a way to close it (tab with button or something like that) I don't think I would mind it being a bit bigger. Great idea to make these. They are great to have. I love my lighted cover for my kindle but sometimes I don't want to use it so I may be checking yours out when you get some done.
  • Funny you just posted about this. I was just on Etsy looking for this exact item for Jason- he's getting a Kindle for Christmas.

Could you add maybe two buttons so that the fold over to give the user the option of which size would more snugly fit the e-reader/iPad?

  • Pretty much ditto Paige, except replace Kindle with Nook. I have a hard cover, but it adds weight, so I don't always like to use it. I also like Brit's idea of two buttons to make is more customizable. I know my Nook (the 1st gen WiFi) is smaller than the color, but bigger than the 2nd gen. It's not a huge difference, but it's there.
    my read shelf:
Jo's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • I would prefer a bigger cover so I can put other stuff in there. Eg when I fly my boarding pass goes on my ipad (and is longer usually)
  • Ok good! I did include a flap with a button closure, I could add a 2nd one so there is a tighter fit. Good idea!
