Cleaning out bookcases

I have well over 1,000 paperback books that I've bought over the past 10 years or so.  Another 100 + hardcover.

Need to get rid of them but I feel a bit guilty just tossing them.  (yes, I know everyone has kindle now)

Can you think of any use for them?  Who to call to donate?

I'm temporarily disabled right now so I can't pack & move them myself.

tia

Re: Cleaning out bookcases

  • I'd ask a friend to pack them and your local libraries may pick them up.  If not, you may have better luck with a pick up based charity- salvation army and a veteran's group do it around here.

  • Mary had better ideas than I, but Goodwill will take them.
  • I take mine to half price books.  I don't get too much $, but better than nothing.   I also take magazines.

If I don't have too many books, I take them to our city library as they have a fund-raiser book sale once a year.

  • We actually got rid of all our books a few years ago...it was a huge load off my mind.  I had a heck of a time organizing them, storing them, displaying them etc

We donated them to a variety of organizations (shelter, prison, nursing home) as well as our library.

Many places will pick up donations on your front porch/doorstep.  You just have to call and make arrangements for a pick up.

As far as packing them...perhaps a family member or neighbor/friend can help you do that?  I don't know that the organization that picks up will do that for you (you could ask of course).

  • All of the pp plus donate to a church, post on craigslist, freecycle (yahoo group)
