Are you planning on learning, or currently learning Bahasa? I keep going back and forth on it, we will probably be here another 6 months to 18months and I speak a little bit to get me through but thankfully although my driver and maid don't speak English we have enough to get by.
It seems like an easy but sort of frustrating language.
Jakarta, Indonesia.

Re: Publius-Bahasa?
Honestly, I go back and forth on it as well. A lot of people here speak English, and those that don't are recent immigrants who tend not to speak Bahasa either (unless they are Indonesian). All math and science classes in Malaysian public schools are taught in English and English is a required subject as well, so by and large Malaysians speak English.
On top of that we're only here for another 20-24 months. We'll be in Geneva long term, so on a personal and selfish level I feel like it's more important that I continue working on my French. I've been taking classes a few days a week. I'm thinking about enrolling in Bahasa lessons when we get back from our holiday traveling, but at the same time I am wondering if I wouldn't get more out of trying to learn Mandarin instead since that is quite widely spoken here as well.
I am terrible at languages but if I was better I would totally learn Mandarin over Bahasa especially if you could get classes easier there, I think on a global scale it would be so much more applicable in the long term!
I only speak English and really should have a second language, even Otto is picking up Bahasa fast, just the other day he said "Tidak ada innis" when talking about his toy, I was blown away, soon he will speak more then me!
